I think what made the ova great was that it used cool sound design over just constantly reusing music and theme songs, the lack of any music made the battles much more real.

I like the lack of music in the OVA, especially for certain area where the lack of music which makes the sounds stand out far more. A good example is the N’doul Ova fight, I love the lack of music and how tense the atmosphere is as the crusader stays quiet as they can to pinpoint where the enemy is. I do think the OVa would benefit with a bit more music in it especially which how much music the composer made for the OVA. Really it’s a shame I had to look for the unreleased OVA music. Still I over all like the lack of music in the OVA, though I do think the 2014 made much better use of their music and sounds overall for the whole series.

This is definitely something that was lost between the OVA and the Anime. I'm not sure why it happened, but the trend in anime which puts more focus on "Special Moves" ended up relegating the Emerald Splash to something not very dynamic. It feels like in the modern anime, whenever the emerald splash is used, it has a charge up sequence, and it's just kind of... Fired. But in this, it seems like they recognize that his ability "Emerald Splash" means he can fire emeralds as a projectile, so they don't need every firing of it feel like a singular heavy attack. I don't know if I can articulate how it feels in the anime compared to this, maybe Clunky is the word Here, it's allowed to just fire it like a machine gun at a moment's notice and shred through a wall, since he can realistically just fire them whenever

Not really budget. The OVA took major liberties from the manga, making more fights more dynamic and focused on movement way more so than the anime. The anime is a 1:1 adaptation of the manga, in which the fights aren't focused on moving around as much as the OVA or other shonen manga. Part 5 being the only real exception, but not by much.
