I think one of the reasons for this is because of his expressions or rather lack thereof. There is no expression on his face (you don't even see it) and his standing and walking is just as dramatic as the atmosphere he is in. He just comes across as expressionless and imposing. In his fight with Kakyoin, he looks downright inhuman. Sorry for rambling, I'm just figuring all of this out.
