Awesome video!!!! I hiked Mt. Wilson in February from the Mt. Wilson Trail in clouds and drizzle! It's lush there as well! The amphibian at 8:32 is a Coast Range Newt (Taricha torosa), in the Salamander Family. 9:36 is Posion Oak indeed! The plants at 18:15 are definitely Poodle Dog Bush, sprouted along Mt. Wilson Trail after the small Mt. Wilson Fire of Oct 2017.

Brian, I drove up to the top then hiked down a little hoping the PDB were blooming and the flowers were beautiful!! The trail however was completely blocked by leaves and sagging flowers. Craziness.
@brianpowell50825 жыл бұрын
I can imagine! When I went was in February, well before bloom, so the PDB was not quite as intrusive at the time! I did still have to do some fancy footwork in a few spots to avoid it!

I've done that from Chantry flats also Sierra Madre and have spoken with people that own those cabins. They own them, some live there seasonally. They are not allowed to rent them. Mt Wilson is one of the 6 pack of peaks of SoCal. Love that hike.

Yep, got the 6 done plus one more this year.

Hey Jay, that area with the poodle dog has long been a really nice green tunnel area. Sadly, it burned last year making an excellent habitat for those poodles. I got mixed up in them recently and had a fairly awful reaction! Also, at Hoegees Trail Camp, I recently spotted your bear on May23. (It was my first trail bear!) Hope to catch you on trail sometime!

Sorry to hear about the poodle dog bush. I'm super wary so I stayed away. In fact I drove back up there hoping the flowers were blooming and there were fields of purple everywhere. Beautiful. The PDB was super overgrown all into the trail though. I probably would not hike that trail back down if I happened to get there.

99.9% of the bear experts: Be sure to make noise while on trail so you don't startle or surprise a bear. Jay: The river will help mask my sounds and I will go as quietly as possible. LOL. Great hike though, thanks for sharing it with us!

Still no luck either! It's astonishing really. I've gone on backpacking trips in parks renowned for their black bear populations but I've still never seen one.

@@marywilliams5175 I’ve considered doing the pct but now I’m planning a coast to coast walk. It won’t be too much longer till I’m able to get started.

Hi jay, I have an AllTrails question. Has your GPS dot ever disappeared halfway through a hike? I've used it on three trails so far and I like it. However last weekend I used it on the Bolsa Chica wetlands trail, which is totally free from trees, not that it matters, but halfway in, my GPS dot disappeared and never came back.
@JayWandersOut5 жыл бұрын
That's never happened to be before. Usually it takes a couple of seconds for my location to update but never just disappeared before. Was your GPS on? I know my phone does security scans every now and then and turns off my GPS so I have to turn it back on.

Hi where does this trail stars ?

It starts southeast of there at Chantry Flats Parking Lot, coordinates 34.196044, -118.022908

Tossing out references , does that mean your going to make it 3 years in a row visiting us ? This time in the summer and not the fall.
@JayWandersOut5 жыл бұрын
I'll be back there late summer/early fall depending on how the weather holds up. I'll probably wind up in Washington for as long as the weather is good. I can get a fishing license for the cost of a resident so I thought about really lounging out for a while.

I was there last weekend. 109 degrees, that trail takes you to Hoegee and strugevant falls. Trust me No bears in that neighborhood. Those cabins are owned by locals and rented. However I've seen and increase in graffiti
@JayWandersOut4 жыл бұрын
I was hearing reports of bears near Hoegee and some hikers I spoke with also said they heard so. Still not sure.

Navigating that poodle dog bush section felt really sketchy Jay, even from the vantage point here behind my screen 👊😎...

I went back there recently and it got even worse with huge flowers everywhere too. The drive up to Mt Wilson is kind of fun.
