Very nice demonstration and a very neat little quad copter. The price from gearbest is 169 american so that puts it at a little over $200 bucks canadian. Still for all the neat stuff it can do seems very reasonable. Happy Flying

I've got to be honest with you I have never seen a 5 gigahertz drone phone combo only with no controller unless it's only Bluetooth.. that doesn't have issues even over 350 feet sometimes.. yes you could go over 350 feet but you usually have some type of issues depending... It's when 5 gigahertz is connected to a controller that you get the 300 meters.. 2.4 gigahertz is a little bit different with the phone you get better distance when it's wide open much better..

little correction cell data and wifi are not different they all RF transmition they just work at different frequencies. In fact when 5G releases there will be a lot of interference between AC and 5G. that is why they came up with mimo for cell sites to minimize the risk of service interruption however time will tell

People like the X9 and X9P due to the camera gimbal (X9P has the better camera). However, the drone has 15 mins of flight time so if you need more flight time, then maybe a different drone is desired.

Hey Steve, Like the review. Just what I've been looking for. ( JUST ordered one today from AliExpress $155.80 TOTAL ) I currently have a Mavic Air. Used to have a P3A, but a backward crash with a tree ended it's ability to video good quality vids even after I repaired all the broken pieces. I love my MA. The reason I want a cheap lil drone with a halfway decent camera on a gimble is to get around the Geofencing set in place by DJI. I like videoing old landmark / icons around the county and there is an abandoned bowling alley just a mile or so from a SMALL municipal airport where I live. I ONLY want to do a shot from up close of the big sign on the top of the 10 foot high roof that says " BOWL " and then pan away from it. Probably won't even have to fly over 50 foot high at the most. Pretty crazy to pay $155.80 for ONE shot/video. Call me crazy or whatever !!

@@mikem2055 No,,, My Air is the replacement for my Phantom 3 Advance which I backed into a tree. I was flying around a church that was having an addition added to it. I'd flown around it several times since the beginning of the project. And this was gonna be my last time videoing it for the church as it was almost complete. Like I said, i'd flown around this building several times in the past. I was in a hurry tp get this shot for the guy I was doing it for. ( the builder ) So,,, I did NOT walk around and keep it in my sight (( BIG NO NO on my part )). As I watched my screen I noticed as I came around a back corner, I didn't have the entire building in the shot. So, I started backing up FORGETTING that there was a tree across the road. I evidently flew higher on all my other passes before this one. This is one reason I bought the Air instead of trying to find another Phantom. I figure the reverse sensor might save my butt should I gey STUPID again. 😉😊😢👍

The only advice I can offer is... Connect your phone to the controller before opening the APP.

Hi Michael. The review by Quadcopter 101 was one of the reviews I had mentioned in this review that were mixed (watch the beginning of my video). The drone sent to me performed great! Also, for anyone reading this... The reason my reviews are positive is because unlike other reviewers, I do get to select the drones sent to me. If a drone looks like crap, I don't want it. If I receive a drone and something does not work on it, I clearly show it in the review that it is not working or what the problem is, but again... unlike other reviewers, I don't harp on that one problem for 20 mins.

I have a x9 heron, the controller ,the antenna should be vertical or the back of the antenna should be facing the drone for best reception,so the smartphone holder is glued on the bottom so i can get the antenna further back,i am trialing antenna boosters so i will se if i get more range,the last test was over 450metres

The antennas on the X9 controller are for show. You can always tell if an antenna is for show based on the range.

Peter, you are correct!!! I just had a second look with a flashlight and I can see tiny wires in the antennas. Usually a drone with a range of less than 800 meters will not place the wires in the antennas due to slowing down the build time.

Follow Me doesn't seen adequate for me on my bike. This afternoon I tried my Z5 drone and it also failed at Follow Me. Didn't turn the camera, and toilet bowl. Pity, as the rest was pretty good. So my question. Or questions. Do you think the X5 Epic would do better? And how easy is it to take off the legs on the X5 for transport?

My guess would be NO. Any drone that follows the GPS of the cell phone will not do a good job for any object moving at speed. You need at least a DJI SPARK to get good results.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I had hoped there would be something cheaper. I haven't tried my WiFi repeater yet. Maybe a stronger 2.4Gh signal will get rid of the toilet bowl. I don't expect a drone to follow me at full speed downhill. 15km/h would be fine. Half a minute or so. And I can fly it kinda manually while I am riding. The biggest problem is my eyesight. I better invest in new glasses. F.........g hate those things. Why don't people have better eyesight when they get older, I mean after all the practice!

I hear ya about the eyesight! Another thing to consider is that drones do not know you are going uphill or downhill so they stay at the same level. Now with that said the DJI SPARK, in my tests will follow you down hill and I believe uphill with no issues. Same is true for the Mavic Air and higher. The Parrot ANAFI also can do this. Other drones.... nope.

There are few LOW COST drones with gimbals, so the price starts at the price of this here HERON X9 and goes up to many thousands of dollars from there.

5GHZ means WiFi of 802.11ac and not 5G as in connecting to a cell tower. You only need a phone that has 802.11ac Wifi for low cost drones (under $300). The more expensive drones up to $10,000 will just plug into your phone.

Question: I likely will be getting the MJX X103W or this drone(JJRC X9). I am leaning more towards this one because of the more stable video. My question is, my old outdated smartphone isn't capable of 802.11ac protocol. But can I fly these two drones without pairing it to a phone? I ask because in this video you calibrated the compass by pressing icon on the phone app and based on what I see on the remote, I see no obvious way to do that without the phone and app.

Good question. On most drones you can fly without the App but you will have no GPS functions like follow, orbit, waypoints. Sometimes by moving the joysticks a certain way you can enter certain calibration modes.

This was my first drone. Impression? Very nice indeed, as long as it lasted. Now the drone is no longer broadcasting its wifi SSID. Hapened out of the blue after the last successful flight. Al procedures to try and reset failed. I see lots of ppl complaining about this exact same issue on fora. Also, the issues with the app... in august last year they released a version that would continue to crash. This happened during my holiday. Luckily I'm tech savy enough to download and install .apk etc, but unacceptable. Now the apps disappeared from the store? What kind of company is this? Don't expect them to answer customer issues. Never ever again will I buy JJRC or related clones. Wasted money. Sorry for the rant but I think ppl need to now this stuff. Will try to reflash using an STLink but really, will go for DJI I guess and order via local company.

Very true. The winds were strong and it was much too cold from plastic. With a two axis gimbal, there is no chance to keep side to side movements still, which the wind was causing. Outdoor video should be as smooth as what was seen indoors on a normal sunny warm day with just a breeze.

Wow, can’t wait for the warm weather! This is the drone. This is the one that for a tiny Spark size drone checks all the boxes. No more more waiting the tou drones are now bridging the gap with the Prosumer DJI type drones. You’re going to be getting that 3 axis gimbal sooner than later if you don’t already have one and are under an NDA Currently. The price it just crazy. I’m going to just go ahead and buy 2 of these. 1 for Mrs. Droning and 1 for me to just have some fun with until wifey crashes hers and needs the backup. It’s gonna happen, it does to all of us when we’re learning. How the build and how solid is the gimbal. Video is fantastic. I’m truly impressed with this little drone. Great review Captain 👨‍✈️!

Wow! I am very impressed with that spark like drone really! And as you said, we can get away with the 250 gr rule I reckon. Pretty decent for a quick overseas trip instead of risking your more valuable DJI Mavic or Phantom drones. Great video as usual!

OK for price but the footage is sure not like a DJI Spark. I don't know... the footage looks really not the best... windy condition or not.

In my opinion, having reviewed countless number of drones, this camera has an above average 1080p video. The gimbal is only 2 axis so it can't handle side to side movements. The DJI Spark uses EIS for side to side movement. In addition, the sensor is less than what you'd find on a DJI Spark, so the megapixels is less. But, for flying a drone in sub-zero temps with high winds, the video quality was pretty good. This drone is a low cost option compared to the higher features of the DJI Spark.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thx for reply, I own a Spark so I know the technical difference. But the jitter in the footage showed in your footage of the JJRC Drone is a lag of the used sensor. I think the sensor does not like the deep temperatures at all. But I give a thumbs up for this video (drone) because it is OK for the price.
