New to your channel. Just watched 3 videos. Each was excellent. CAI for $40? That is a no brainer. My AFe for $300 does not work any better than yours. All your upgrades are focused on the "normal" Jeep guy. This is great compared to all the videos where unlimited cash guys install $5-10,000 of "performance" upgrades. Plus your videos are straight forward and you always mention both the pros and cons. Keep them coming.

Thank you! And that is the goal for my channel, not everyone needs to spend thousands in order to build a cool and capable Jeep. I’ve been around jeeps for quite a while and it’s crazy how much bad info their is out in the world as well as online. Thanks for watching and tagging along 🤘

Good job on this video, enjoyed the testing you did as well with this one. I am impressed that there was actually a colder air difference, I have put a couple of them on trucks in the past especially when I lived 60 plus miles away from work, did it for a little bit better millage and it eventually paid for itself, plus, i do think it sounds cool when its sucking the air, like you showed on the end of the video. Fun stuff. thanks again and have a blessed week my friend. Dale

Use some heat wrap around the pipe then take another test and update this post. I have looked at these cheap ones and thought about wrapping the tube in some heat tape...for like cycle exhaust pipes.
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
I will give that a shot. Part of me thinks that wrapping it might cause the pipe to heat up more since the aluminum won’t be able to release the heat. It will be a battle between which is more important (dissipating heat or preventing it).
@newellrobinson90726 жыл бұрын
Also is the filter that it came with as good as a K&N or any other name brand high flow air filter? I think the wrap is going to reflect the heat away from the tube. Also is that a real aluminum tube or different material with an aluminum coating?? Just a few things to think about. Also you could have cut away the section of the battery tray that has the holding points for the old air box and set it to the side. That may help a little being the DV8 inner fender has a screen already over it.

What I noticed the most was the volume of air that the intake let in. My air flow increased by at least 30%, but I still swear it was closer to 50% more air. Also when I was on the highway and would hit the gas the engine noise sounded like a hamster squealing, but afterward it was a nice throaty rumble all the way to death wobble. Just kidding about the death wobble.

I’m only at the 5 min mark here, and I will continue to watch the rest, but a thought struck me, the more expensive cold air intakes have the shrouds around parts of them, could you maybe achieve the same thing by keeping the original filter box, just removing the top from it and placing this filter inside it running the tube through it?
@bigtrucklittlerv79696 жыл бұрын
Should also check driving temps. That's where it operates mostly.
@Jeepinwargammer6 жыл бұрын
Good review, but you had the heat issue backwards. Aluminum is not a good heat sink so it wicks heat away better. Comparable Plastics are actually slightly porous, and tends to be more of a heat sink. This is why aluminum rads, and inter-coolers are so good at what they do.

I have a filter like that on my Harley and it's a pain to clean it. The cover is called a sock by Harley and many riders use it all the time. I never use mine - it cuts down on performance and is not needed in the rain as the oil in the filter doesn't allow much or no water to get through. I have ridden in heavy rain with no problem. Thee only problem was when I had the sock on and it was dusty - some engine missing. I took the sock off and no problem. My buddy says the clean out engines with some water in the filter where he works. Maybe it's different for a jeep. ( I just got a CAI for my Wrangler.)
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
What your referring to is pretty much a prefilter. This is actually a waterguard, lots of people hydrolock their jeep engines from splashing through deep water with a cold air intake. I would highly recommend running a water guard if you have a cone style filter

A few issues. 1. Your outside temp according to your dash was 49°F. Please retest above 80°F to a more accurate assessment. 2. Seat of the pants and psychological "feeling" of improvement means absolutely nothing. Before and after dyno pulls will show you that in nearly every system out there that has dyno video and charts... 2-7hp increases were made. That equates to about $65 per horsepower based on an average cost of $300 for most CAI. It looks cool. It sounds cool. $65 per horsepower? Not so much.
