Its time to upgrade my Jeep Wrangler JKUs suspension!!!
Long arms are a great upgrade, and provide a ton of benefits.
I went with a DIY 3 link front and rear kit from 7 Slot Customs (Barnes4WD). This is a new kit, and i am the first to install it.
It will be available in many options soon, found at www.barnes4wd....
Like i mentioned in the video, 7SC (Barnes4WD) has teamed up with the youtube channel and is offering you guys a permanent 10% off discount code on products using the code JKgear.
Now lets talk about the 3 link long arms..
A 3 link will be a great choice for offroading due to the design. Less binding, due to the single upper link allowing for misalignment.
This bind free design, will translate over to a "softer" on road feel.
If you want a 3 link front and rear, i would strongly suggest running both front and rear sway bars, as well as adjustable shocks or a shock that is valved stiff in design.
In a few videos from now, i will be testing the new long arms offroad, as well as taking the jeep on a cross country trip to attend the Powerstop trail to sema. I will be putting this kit to the test!
As you can tell, the install requires welding, cutting, and a good amount of fabrication skills.
I will say that it goes together very easy, and overall its not much harder than other long arm installs.
If your looking for a well priced kit that performs well, then i would strongly suggest this 7SC kit. Yes it does require some work, but nothing beats the feeling of doing this yourself!
Like always, i hope you enjoyed the video. Please leave a comment and a thumbs up!
I have alot of cool videos coming soon, so make sure to turn on notifications and stay tuned!!

JK Gears & Gadgets, One of the most informative video channels on the web. I have learned so much from the videos about suspension, roll cage building, exhaust mods, shock installations. Ben does a fine job with the explanations of what is being done for what reasons. This comment is coming from a truck guy who is slowly getting the bug for buying a Jeep. As a professional welder I'd like to point out you were wrong when you said not to weld bungs in with a stick set up. Mig is nice, but its better for lost of ok welding, Tig is a much better option. If you can't tig though Stick is a much better option. IMO.. As someone who has just broken 200 miles of weld on a oil line. But I do guess if its a novice doing it Mig would be a bit better... the cleaner, and more accurate the weld, the more strength it has.

I only said that to people who arent familiar with welding. I don’t want someone to go out and buy a $100 stick welder and try it. Mig is easier for someone to learn and usually the welds are better for someone who doesn’t have practice.

@johnbauman783 5 жыл бұрын
@@JKGearandGadgets you are correct mig is easier and will generally look better . for someone just learning stick is way harder if people would learn to weld up hill with mig the welds penetrate better but don't look as nice as down hill welds most people in the offroad industry weld mig down hill. What gives you the authority to say you can't use flux core or 7018 stick? Strength wise i would stand behind either process. Both are used for structural welding so i don't think you need to worry... mig is good because it's "easier" but it also can be weaker because it doesn't penetrate as deep. So for those of you who don't have mig feel free to stick or flux core. I have done nothing but stick and flux core on my jeep.

So if u watch till the end u get the answer long vs short arms. Short transfers the hit angled up into the jeep where as w/long arm transfer in along frame rail, completely diff feel driver experience rocking. Has any 1 tried a mid arm best of both, type deal other than newer factory jeep models. It would hve a 2arms in 1 double pivot deal. A long arm along frame only short forking into a full flex connection pnt of short shit bad ride from factory non rock system. Most ppl r not rocket jeep guys. They can bolt on & off upgrade & reset & w/modern tech reprogram NOW. Best of both worlds factory good enough to b trail or Rubie jeep & easy reach for it strive to not just upgrade but Mid arm new pivot pnt bolt on & bit of spot welding. Any monkey can, mayb even I can spot weld to get #s measurement start drilling & bolting. Still think that is the to go w/this. If u r core driller u will b making on custom systems per client on sight in house but not the market not the sport nearly unlimited if not doing work yourself $100k max buy jeep/truck & as u see it All in.

To anyone watching this, never weld a bracket up with the joint in it. The heat transfers fast enough to melt the races inside the joint. Instead, use a piece of all-thread with nuts inside and out to hold the tolerance while you weld.

They don’t have a “kit” for the TJ, but they do sell standard 3 link kits on Barnes. The front would have welded brackets on the frame for uppers and lowers. For the rear, the TJ is very easy to do a 4 link with the uppers triangulated. Cassie and I will doing this on the Lj in a few months, so if your interested then you can hold off for that install

So factory prt of short arm double pivot prt on very forgiving math & angles unlike long arm deal. Hymm w/lower c or u same same for brackets again more flex. Unlike like your long arm being hard mounted at frame "fixed" the mid/double pivot takes the hit up in to cab/jeep normal & flexes at pivot then like lever transfers that hit along 2nd arm only not into frame but down away from frame. That is the ?? ?? NOW bc it's a control arm>fancy way of saying flex but only allow 1 motion & while holding support the axle or diff u r connecting into. So spot for support & shock dampening at the pivot double pnt & the other side of "lever" again supporting member & shock pnt. I came up w/Anderson type shock absorbing bushings that self corrects the geometry. But it is not designed the mount/support a member prt.

When u to math problems how u type it in changes the result so u hve to hve a pre expected result to catch it when u put it in backward or such. Doesn't work w/spelling bc we r not in latin & so it may look wrong & b spelled right, w/out any rhyme or reason. Just there sp correct is a spelling/helling example like math. If u spelled it incorrect it may miss the auto correct by spelling it correct but wrong word.

The bracket itself could also hve 2 prt system, that way u hve a gap & sleeve on top of diff u spot weld only & then bolt. Then bracket itself is 2 prt not just 1 So u hve 2 ways to attack it 2 pnts designed failure pnts & more replace or adjustment built in, & more reuse if u steal prts from 1 jeep & reuse on another. Flexible deal changeable deal seems better deal then OT 10 rules No changes of any kind no amendments move on hardest core.

Toss the light bar! Especially if your going cross country. The whistling and mall crawler look are wrong for the Jeep. And they are not very useful. But you have new jwspeakers so you should be great!

I need 2 see it. Flip your under frame video upside down. & star Trek like Q change the gravity of the moon or planet, or next gen some equivalent. Might hve to watch this 1 several times. Helps if another video on utube does the exact same repair upgrade, wrench turns bc u here & see it twice as nice from diff story teller. When u ref certain types of other suspension types, or advanced set ups it help if u can pull a pic from web w/arrows added pnting at the prt or organ u r doing operation on, doctor.

Dismissing stick welding shows your ignorance of the process, even gas welding done right would be fine if not much slower. If you think the stresses might be too much, rosettes could be added. In fact, mig is the easiest to mess up...

The prt that bracket u r talking about welding on to top of diff seems like a post on deck. Used get better result if your bracket sat securely in connection racket, so whether u "weld it" or bolt it or both, it doesn't sit flush on top of diff. Should b a flex or space gap post on deck or 1 prt truely is going & doing what ever the other does. A bracket connected to biggin tires is basically like post on porch< a giant level> so a spot designed to fail & how & where your words no perfect set up is best. Designed to fail to flex but not but could break & this is prt of set up installed & how it can b all changed out & fixed. If all 1 u take a cutter torch to it & cut u out & junk it strong but not ideal.

U want to keep like u said every factory prt or connection or or link as poss, unless bolt on upgrading or adding to what is already there. Spot welding any monkey, & unbolting & drilling is only "kit" that will mass market make money cents/sense.

Great video! Personally I would remove the light bar because it looks kind of out of place on your bad ass Jeep. If you still want that extra light out on the trails I would recommend the KC Pro 6. I think that option would look great on your Jeep and give you the light you want and go along with your jeeps aggressive stance. Again great video and keep up the awesome work!

Nice work! Just a tip keep a battery powered leaf blower close so when you're cutting and grinding you don't have to roll around in metal shavings.

Very informative Ben!!! Thank you!! It answered a lot of questions I had and gave me things to look out for. And to answer your question about the light bar, Virginia is DARK at night but it’s up to you. I personally am not a fan of them though. I look forward to many more of your videos and meeting up with you.
