Using a 5 channel amp for my setup so would you run a jl 10tw3-d4 with a jl vx700/5i or jl vx1000/5i. The sub has a 400 watt rms. The amps: a) vx700/5i subwoofer channel at 2 ohms - 300 watts, b) vx1000/5i subwoofer channel at 2 ohms - 600 watts or wire it at 4 ohms - 400 watts. Which should you run?

I would like to know why some sub designs are over a decade old, but the price has increased to near 80% where the competition have kept their prices the same? OK, DD and Sundown have increased their price a smidge but that's because they're on version 4,5,6 on some lines, but the prices are nowhere near the 40-75% price increases I've seen in the UK for JL gear.

The M-Cars 6, 8 and 10-cylinder cars have all been a well documented disaster in terms of reliability, and the Rolls V12 in terms of overall reliability hasn't done anything to crack that. So good luck with that! So that aside ... what you're telling me is that Dynaudio, Morel, DD, Hertz, Focal, DLS, Ground Zero, Sundown, Alpine, Mosconi, Genesis etc, etc ... aren't about quality? And what data/parameters do you define as quality?

I have the 400w powered 10” JL audio I believe it is the tw1 and it bumps really good for the size! My first one I had to get replaced as the box was leaking air within the first week but I have my second one now and so far so good just gotta break it in first! Love JL audio

Andrew, the TW1 and TW3 have nearly identical sound. TW1 uses less volume for tighter applications. Size for size the TW3 should have more output or play the lower frequencies louder on the same power compared to the TW1.

I don’t want a box that’s as large as the one in the link you provided. 20years ago, I wouldn’t consider getting a shallow mount or thinner subwoofer. My listening taste has changed and my needs outweigh my wants.

@@Phut68 The issue with shallow mounts is that they need more space, not less to perform optimally! The marketing departments won't tell you this. But I stand by my comment. Most 6" and some "8" fall under the TW1 and TW3 depth for mounting. With the right alignment, they'll do a lot better. Also look at the Peerless XLS 10" The video was just to demonstrate how well a smaller driver can do, when done right. And for me, that's where the problems lie, the enclosures aren't done right, sealed or open! All the best.

The TW1 is a great subwoofer when a low profile application is needed, but a 12TW1 in a ported enclosure will have less overall output in the whole frequency range when compared to the 12W3v3 in a H.O. enclosure. The W3v3 will have more power handling, more excursion, and a better engineered enclosure.

@@JLAudioInc sorry I typed my comment wrong so I have the HO112-W6v3 12" had for about 9 months in the back of my 09 silverado. 2 months after having it the box got a bad rattle right above the top ring where the screws fasten I have a wedge in there atm to keep it from rattling. Besides all that how would 2 of these compare to the one I have now or maybe even 3 would they have the same deep lows

Hey Elijah, thanks for reaching out. Two 8” subwoofers is going to be about the same output as a single 13.5 Tw5 (on the same power). If you want a serious increase in output then adding a second TW5 would really be the only option. If you double your amplifier power after adding the second woofer it will be a very substantial difference in output.

Personally, after many years of running JL, Alpine, Hybrid Audio, DD, Sundown ... I went down the Home Audio route. I can buy 3 Peerless XLS10's for the price of a single JL 10". A 10W3v3 or 10TW3 should be able to play a bit louder over all on the same power as the TW1 due to added excursion and cone area. Sound quality is similar between them all.

I've owned a lot of Alpine gear, speakers, subs and amps … they always left me wanting. I like JL amps, but I can''t stand the near 80% price hike (in the UK) for certain JL products. As for Alpine subs ... again, they always fell well behind the likes of Sundown and DD IMO. Like JL, Alpine is nice gear, but it's not for me. But in the face of the disgraceful and unjustified price hike (UK) over the years for JL products without any developments in their subs, I'd probably go for Alpine. But I feel Alpine are one of those default names. When one gets into the game, one should leave those behined for more professional gear from the likes of DLS, Audio Frog, Hybriud Audio, Sundown, DDm Morel, Ground Zero etc.

Try reaching out to your local authorized JL Audio dealers - some of them may be running specials. You can find a list of dealers at www.jlaudio.com/dealers - The TW1 and TW3 have nearly identical sound. TW1 uses less volume for tighter applications. Size for size the TW3 should have more output or play the lower frequencies louder on the same power compared to the TW1.

JL is right-priced if you value your time. Car audio for adults. And their speakers sound great for the environment they are playing in. Oh, and JL perfectly refurbished a sub for me, not purchased from an authorized seller by the way, after their competitor's PDX threw a DC Offset. Great customer service in my book. Their equipment is so pleasant to hear, and it remains pleasant when the volume is cranked. They have great sounding gear at every price point.

@@mattb9664 Liar, you must work for JL . You pay twice the price of what they're actually worth because it's "JL". My 2 12" w3s are unimpressive for $600 when you can get 1 bone rattling sundown zv5 12 for another $180. My c5s blew out on me and they were powered by a jl 360/4 . Absolute junk considering I paid $600 for a pair of "quality" speakers. They should've lasted a lifetime and weren't even loud. Ok, so maybe it was my fault that the speakers blew because my gains were set to high, right? Well they also refused to fix my xd 1000/1 amp because it was "purchased from and unauthorized seller". I literally waited a month for my shop to send it to Florida just so it can get denied and waste about $70 for shipping for absolutely nothing . This was the last straw I had with JL since I put so much money into their equipment Never buying JL again . I'll take my chances with sundown or even skar.

@@jamesyoungful well technically , I paid $500 for 2 12 w3s a couple years ago which is still overpriced . They are selling for $309 New each, right now which is a Joke. I paid $600 for jl c5 component Speakers
