Grundig Satellit Professional 650 Video#1 - Checkout and Powerup

I check out a very exciting Grundig Satellit Pro 650 with an unusual motor-driven preselector to find out if it works at all and what repairs it might need to restore it to good operating condition.

The german word "Seefunkzulassung" means that the reciver is authorized for reciving Marine radio . The german word "Rundfunk" means the area of the Shortwave Band for Radio Stations. You found the word "Funk" also in the company name of the famous german "Telefunken" company. I really like your videos.

It doesn’t matter that the preselector might not appear exactly on frequency. It’s purpose is to peek the signal and the position it arrives at might very with antenna type.

The 650 was introduced in 1986. Very nicely designed receiver. You can preset 60 frequencies with 32 of them in the shortwave band. Has a 30 Watt amplifier to drive pressure chamber speakers which put out a better sound than ordinary sized speakers! The antenna was prone to come off but it looks like you need a replacement!. In the back next to the clip for external antenna right next to a recessed rectangular slide button for changing from internal to external antenna. The plastic piece that sticks out of the rectangular slot is MISSING! See 13:02 to see the slot with no protruding switch. It allows switching from internal to external antenna.Since the internal antenna is missing too assume the previous owner removed it to keep it on external antenna. It's gone missing from back of chassis when you took the cover off. Just the coax like plug is there next to it the ground and external antenna spring clips are left. Someone has modified it to use external antenna only. Can anyone could confirm this?

DF aerial might be a direction finding aerial. Yes, I was interested in the Qantas sticker too. Maybe originally owned by a pilot... or a retirement gift for a pilot...?

Any recommendations on getting the pre-selector, motorized tuner working? I can hear it on my father’s 650 Satellit, but the dial doesn’t turn.

All down-conversion stages use the SO42P Double Balanced Mixer, certain places in the US cut the cables of electrical to stop people trying to use them so they might be for parts only use, what about a fabric surround for the speaker, working but only on battery but not mains.

Don’t keep turning off the preselector. Also I think you have the external antenna connected to the wrong place. Try the coax socket on the back of the radio.

You pushed the set time/date button accidentally. Be careful since it can only do one function at a time and seems to cut out anything it is doing when you select something else, even by accident.

I just cant believe what i am looking at , is this guy some kind of joker Read the instructions you will find on the inter net , Looking at the work bench tell me he is some kind of tech or a dam good actor ,when it comes to Quality German products ,if you do Not understand it then dont touch it please , I have a number of Grundig radios including the 650
