Red delicious is the most misnamed fruit in history. Should be called red DISGUSTING. Softest flesh known to man (Ryan is right about mash wrapped in wax). If you can somehow keep that garbage in your mouth long enough to actually have it hit your taste buds then you'll realize the flavour is non existent. Golden delicious is much the same, but the skin is almost as soft as the mush held within. A disgrace to green apples. Granny Smith apples, on the other hand, are always crisp and crunchy unless actually bruised. The tangy, sour, but sometimes sweet flavour of Granny Smith, coupled with the juiciness of the fruit, is refreshing and tastes great every time. As green apples go, the Granny Smith is the undisputed GOAT. Red apples have much more choice. Unfortunately I don't live in NA so I only have access to a very limited selection compared to Ryan but there are clear winners and sinners. Aside from the Red Disgusting, you have the soft, mushiness known as the Braeburn. Another garbage tier red apple fit for nothing. If you like the tanginess of the Granny Smith then you can't go wrong with the Cox. Although a smaller apple, don't let its size put you off. As it is a red apple, it bears a sweeter flesh but still gives you the tangy thrill that you know and love. The cream of the crop for red apples are, of course, Jazz and Pink Lady. Sweet, crunchy, juicy, and often very large. Although these options are more expensive than your standard Cox their sweet flavour profile absolutely makes it worth the cost. Gala apples represent a happy medium between the Cox and the Pink Lady: Another larger red apple with a sweet flesh but not as tasty as the latter. All round a good apple that doesn't break the bank. Overall, if you want to eat an apple then go for anything except the red/golden disgusting and avoid the Braeburn unless starving.

I like apples like honeycrisp but like granny smith is the only apple i think of as tart, every other apple is sweet or sweet-tart(sweet), if i want an actual tart apple the only one i know is granny smith, also no way red delicious is better than granny smith maybe you just never want a tart apple but at least granny smith is pretty consistently crisp unlike grainy ass red delicious.
