After John's years of house-husbandry-fatherhood he was back. Back with songs that his original followers could relate to. Then he was gone and that shattered everything. The dream was over.

a lot of fans blamed Yoko for the Beatles breakup. unfairly. the Beatles were already breaking up due to creative differences. the only 'crime' John committed was falling in love.

Not only do I agree, but I honestly think a lot of people are just jealous. I mean i think most people would give a LOT to have the connection they had!! They are just not acknowledging that.

Wings of Pegasus analyzed a performance of hers of Imagine she did a few years after he died. She sang it harshly and abruptly indicating she was intending to convey anger and pain at her husband being murdered. You would not believe the sheer number of comments ridiculing and hating on her, mostly insisting she couldn't sing (she could if and when she chose to and very well). Fil of WoP answered a question in a live stream about the response to his video of her and he said he though people were jealous of her fame and connection. I was really glad to see he was so insightful. He didn't even know she could sing better than in that performance. A few of us enlightened him. That said, I adore everything about him, and accept her as someone special for him to have loved her as he did. @@babylonsister118

The morning after John Lennon got shot, my best friend called me and said “John is dead.” Her brother’s name is John so I freaked out and said what what happened John? And she said no. John Lennon. And then I was lost. We were both huge Beatles fans. My favorite was George. Hers was John. Sometimes it still completely overwhelms me.

Thank you so much for that-so much fun! Probably before your time, but you see a number of iconic celebrities in this video, including Fred Astaire (of the Hollywood dance duo Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers) walking Yoko through the door. Also George Harrison walks Yoko through the door in another shot. Then John and legendary artist Andy Warhol, and finally John playing basketball (badly) with comedian Dick Gregory. He and Yoko had quite the bunch of celebrity friends in this video! As for Yoko and the Beatles? John boldly bringing her into the studio suddenly towards the end of Beatles did raise the tensions which were already growing, leading to their breakup. I think John would have liked to have had Yoko accepted into the Beatles, prompting Ringo to say in exasperation to John "Come on, John, she's NEVER going to be a Beatle!". John was already losing interest in the group, but when it became clear Yoko wasn't going to be accepted into the group, this is when he called a meeting at the end of August '69, as they were putting the finishing touches on Abbey Road to announce "I want a divorce (from the Beatles). Their new manager (and fiendish crook) Allen Klein, who was looking to take the Beatles empire for all it was worth convinced John to keep his departure from the band a secret. In the meantime, the other three were sitting their with egg on their faces from this meeting. Paul later said "we were there as the jilted girlfriends who had just been dumped.". Paul stated later in an interview "I just couldn't give John that kind of control. So there was a period from August '69 to April of 1970 when the world did not know the Beatles were breaking up because John agreed to Klein's request to keep his departure a secret. Paul had enough of the pretenses and had a press conference at the release of his solo album, publicly announcing that HE was leaving the Beatles, which became the official announcement that the band had broken up. This sent John through the roof with rage, as he felt that since he was the founder of the group, HE should have been the one to announce the breakup of the band. This led to a couple of years of fighting in the press between John and Paul, with them both recording solo songs attacking each other (Paul, "Too Many People" and John, "How Do You Sleep?"). Eventually by 1974 they would make nice with each other, but would never record with each other again, although there is much evidence by 1980, the time of the song you just played John was giving serious thought to writing with Paul again. It was not to be. Yoko, besides being an artist in her own write, was a classically trained pianist, but her singing is definitely an acquired taste. Nonetheless, with the right production, she could fit into some highly stylized music herself. The track "Give Me Something" off from John and Yoko's last album together, "Double Fantasy" is a high octane dance track. Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson of the B52's actually sang their vocals in a very Yoko Ono style. In 1979 John heard the B52's "Rock Lobster" on the radio for the first time, and called out "Listen Yoko! They're doing your schtick!" Thanks for the reaction. That was truly great!!!!

Yes, she was an avant garde/conceptual performance artist in her own right before laying eyes on John, and well-known and regarded in the London scene. She also had vocal training as a child apparently. She could sing in a way that was pleasing to people - when she chose to! I admire her for that, although her singing isn't typically my cup of tea. She also sound good on The Luck of The Irish with John.

I urge you to start at the beginning. Listen to their albums chronologically. The songs are short. So maybe you could react to a few at a time. It's worth the time and will really give you a new perspective. Even way back at the beginning, it is obvious they had something. You can hear them try different styles and techniques. You will also hear incredible harmonies. It may seem like a big project, but is well worth it. You can take your time. Us longtime Beatles fans can tell you, you will be opening a box of treasures that will last the rest of your life. We also enjoy watching others reactions on this wonderful journey.

Must react to " Watching the Wheels".. next. He retreated from music business for four years to be a home Dad...then in 1980...released a double album ready to take , his generation forward. Sadly, cut down by a coward ,"Who's name shall never be mentioned" as the coward shot John for Fame. ..but " Starting Over" , Watching The Wheels" ...were songs that let us know, John had found peace, and encouraged us to Love. P.S. y'all get off YoKo, you'll never find a greater Love Story than John and Yoko.
