"This next song is about a little lady I met while on vacation on a tropical island, she rocked my world so I wrote this song about that experience" - Steve Miller at SPAC before doing Jungle Love

Steve Miller learned to play guitar quite young and has been making great Classic Rock tunes since the 60s. Miller was born into a musical family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His parents were close friends with Les Paul and Mary Ford and frequently had jazz musicians over to their house to visit. Paul gave Miller his first guitar lessons. He has a massive guitar collection. At a guitar auction in 2011, Miller said that he owned 450 guitars including a black left-handed Fender Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix had originally ordered, but Miller ended up claiming it from Manny's Music and re-strung it right-handed, as Hendrix had died after it was ordered. I saw him at SPAC/N.Y. and he played 13 different ones including a 1957 Chevy Tail fin, a Harley Davidson gas tank. Miller is a True Classic Rock Legend.

Miller was a blues rocker in the early 70's, then at some point he started writing catchy pop rock songs and banging out hits. This and The Joker are my favorite of this phase. The whisting always makes me crack up 😂

These two albums (Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams) were intended as a double album but were then issued separately. They both use the drummer Gary Mallaber, and I think the drumming on both albums is superlative. Awesome rhythms, awesome fills.

The Drums and Steve Miller's brilliant Guitar drive this song along. Mr. Miller is vastly underrated as a Guitarist, Singer and Songwriter. He started in the late 60's, and he is still active today, quite a career. Seen him twice, he is stellar in concert, a master.

Just a heads up: the Steve Miller Band has at least two hit songs that have lead-in tracks, and they are always played together. If either (or both) of those songs is requested by a Patron, please play both the lead-in track and the requested song. Those songs are "Space Intro / Fly Like An Eagle" and "Threshold / Jet Airliner". Thanks!

Good choice! Good fun Steve Miller song still sounds as good as it did in the 70's. Reminds me of girls I wanted to date then that liked the attention but they were to busy looking at somebody else. Good reaction, you got the idea.

I always loved this song but felt like he went over the deep-end with commercialism starting with Fly Like an Eagle. Don't get me wrong, it was the right move and made him a fortune. My favorites are from waaaay back. "Space Cowboy", "Livin In the USA", "Kow Kow", that shit rocked.

I like many of SMB’s albums but must have caught him on a bad night the only time I ever saw him in concert. 1977 or 78, in Hartford, CT. He came out and sat on a stool for most of the show. His graphics were limited to what might pass for a 55” TV today. It was just very uninspiring; the least favorite concert out of hundreds I have attended. He has a terrific catalog though.
