"Somebody give me a Cheeseburger!", a great line. Congratulations, I think you are the first reactor to do this song. Lyrically, besides that one line, maybe not the greatest, but it just gives you an uplifting feeling from the music, and the delivery of the lyrics, their FEEL. It is hopeful, with a touch of American sarcasm and a little truth serum in the mix. Thanks again.

Man, his early albums are so incredible. Of course I got to listen to them when I was a kid when it was all actually happening live his music takes me back to that time just as much as the Beatles.

Love this song! I like the really funky rhythm. He is all over the map when it comes to music style... blues, R&B, psychedelic blues, country, Indian-style, pop-rock-blues, rock & roll (Rock 'n Me). He probably has a song that fits every permutation of genre combinations possible! Mercury Blues is a deceptively simple song... the offbeat guitar that comes back to the main rhythm on the guitar is what makes it unique. Many many bands have covered this song.

Cheeseburgers in the USA; I'm glad you are doing some very early, Steve. I was rockin' to this 54 years ago, back in 1969, and it's still a banger and crazy tune. Thanks for all your hard work and for bringing us such great music as this Gem lost in time and space. Now, how about some 'Kow Kow Calculator' - another early tune

I first saw Steve Miller with the Steve Miller Blues Band in 1966 and this 1968 song still has the edge that was characteristic of a lot of the blues bands back then who often fused rock/folk/jazz into their music. The Steve Miller Band I saw with Boz Scaggs as the supporting act in 1974 had evolved into a much more rock-oriented style with blues overtones...

For me, Steve Miller's finest moment on guitar is the end solo that constitutes the final two minutes of Going To The Country, still makes the hair on my arms stand up. Never seen any reaction to that song, if choosing it make sure it's the full three minutes 50 version !

Maybe their best song. Boz Scaggs was part of the band at the time.

This is very similar in sound to the Doobies. I love them both! I saw Steve at the Monterey Pop Festival. Then my band was on the same lineup as him at a rock festival in ‘69. Saw him again at my college. Thirty years later , we ran into him at an inn in Maine. Many crossings!!! Steve’s guitar mentor was family friend, Les Paul ( guitar genius and guitar creator).

People who only know "The Joker" and "Abracadabra" often don't realise what a huge part of the 60's psychedelic scene the early SMB were. A fine choice, sir.

Oh, that was the politics of like 1968 1969. It really felt apocalyptic. The whole country was feeling it and this was a blues riff on that whole USA love it or leave it. Vietnam war death and destruction. People were seeing the body bags coming back and we had Nixon running for president and we lost Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy. It really felt like the end times a lot of the music from that particular period had a very apocalyptic quality to it. Yeah, the church sound was part of it. I don’t know what to say. It was a definite time in place and vibe that we have not seen Since Though I’d say right now we’re sort of living through something similar only. It’s a lot worse and a lot darker.
