He also grew up as the son of a member of the Allman Brothers Band, so keep that in mind. Now Hendrix, he started late in life and he still had the most raw, natural talent out of any rock or blues guitarist.

The tone is mostly just the humbucker, the twin reverb comes second. No pedal or anything if you watch covers on KZbin any guy with an SG can have similar tone, so the sound is easily replicable, that's the easy part, because the rest comes from his fingers.

@joeguitargod
@joeguitargod 9 жыл бұрын
Devi Drogt Practice is obviously a very important and vital component to becoming a great guitarist or musician. But there are those who are born with that little extra something that comes from within and can't be taught to someone, no matter how much they practice. Derek Trucks is one of those individuals. Like smoothz01 said, he plays better than some who are 3-4 times his age. Logic suggests that that shouldn't happen. Yet, there it is. When I see youngsters who are incredible at what they do at such a young age, I sincerely think they are an old soul. I mean, what else can explain having such seasoned ability at such a young age? The environment you grew up in and the people you were exposed to can only account for so much.

smoothz01 Dang, this kid is a master already. At about 15, I could really burn on guitar then switched to bass because there was a gig. Years later I had an accident that injured my hand. Now I have to start all over again. But at least I am trying.

I've read the comments and it's not about who's the king of slide. It's about legacy, and understanding your instrument and hands down, any true player still in the scene will answer the question pretty much the same. Derek Trucks has taken slide guitar to a whole different level. Of course Duane and Dickey set the bar high, but today in 2017, if you are a true player, Derek just took things to a new level. And well it should be. Cheers to him. He pisses me off and that's a good thing. I'm just like, Damn.....are you friggin kidding me? And from what I've seen Derek is a truly good guy. I know this much, if it were not for Derek and Warren and a few others, I might have lost faith in true rock n roll. Derek Trucks is making his own history and doing a damn good job of it. PEACE.

I saw Derek brought on as a special guest with Los Lobos in Tucson, AZ circa 2001-2002 After a little bit of the song the lead guitarist just walked over to amp and pulled out his guitar chord from speaker and then just turned and pointed to young Derek indicating he cant compete

As much as I love Coy Bowles, I am sure he himself would laugh at getting compared to Derek. Interesting thought. You might find it surprising that my long time partner, who is also from Georgia and has been playing electric and acoustic guitar since he was a kid, is now 28 and heavily influenced by the greats: Duane and Derek as well as the TRUE grandfather of slide guitar, Elmore James. He continues to grow as a slide guitarist inspired by artists like these as well as great poets with true words like Tupac. Tupac evolved out of a violent life of crime and self-destruction to share words of forgiveness and peace through his music only to be brutally murdered. But he was a rapper, too. To each their own. Just some food for thought. :)

to me, the most remarkable story from Gregg Allman's memoir was the story of when Butch took Gregg and a couple other guys from the band to see Derek play when he was 9. The skills are there even at this young age. His skills have gotten better. But here's one thing you can't teach.The soul of his playing is there in spades. What a special talent.

If you read Gregg Alllman's memoir, there's a great story about the first time Butch took Gregg to see Derek play when he wasn't even 10. Like a few people have said, while unusual, it's not out of the question for someone to have great technique at 13. Just to be blessed with the technique. But at 13, he's playing with the soul of a man old enough to be his grandfather. And he's only gotten better. I'm so jacked to have tickets to see TTB in February! BTW, I find it curious that he has a pick in his hand but I don't think he ever uses one now. PS. love the Skydog shirt.
