I just wanted to say I am super proud of Julianna. I'm studying to become a teacher, and in my course I get to observe many kids. I love watching other people teach because I can get more ideas on different actvities. Judy, you're a great teacher. I am serious. I was watching Julianna in awe as she applied math skills (division) and comprehension skills (reading and understanding the meaning of text) to the fun cooking activity. She is a smart girl! Good job doing division in your head. You did very well getting the girls engaged in the activity and communicating the educational purpose (getting them to inquire, problem solve, and apply their knowledge). Usually, when it comes to these fun activities, some kids will do it for fun without realising the educational purpose. You managed to structure this practical activity in a fun way, that ties in different disciplines and allows them to apply the skills they've learnt in class. I'm seriously impressed! Would love to see more home schooling clips!

I totally agree with you here, I like how she incorporated different schooling subjects into everyday chores. Also the way she tries to teach them, was not only educational but fun and that's what motivates young children to learn.

Judy, my mom homeschooled me & my siblings most of our school years and although we did have book work that we had to complete, usually so many pages a day or 4-5 hours a day, a majority of our schooling was taught by the "unschooling" method. It's a form of schooling where you learn organically through real-life experiences, such as cooking, chores, responsibilities, and so much more. For me personally, I didn't like the public school system (I didn't like being around strangers and had severe anxiety that I still have to this day) so my mom began homeschooling me after I completed 2nd grade. We would go on trips around our city to learn too, such as museums, so school isn't just about what kids learn in books and I think the girls will be just fine if you don't work with them daily on school work since y'all already do many of these things with them - I turned out just fine!
