I've used JMRI DecoderPro to start creating my roster, but I haven't done anything ambitious. Your presentation has piqued my curiosity and given me some courage to venture into more advanced capabilities. Thanks.

Nice video!! Back in the 1980's another guy ... Gary Kildall from Digital Research ... also had the idea to build an "operating system" independent of what specific hardware you run it on ... it was called CP/M. Going forward, Java 11 seems to be the best choice for running JMRI this days.

I just downloaded and installed Decoder Pro. I entered my first roster entry and hit "Save" The row on the spreadsheet is so squished vertically it can't be read. What do I do?

I found this a very interesting and help video, and I thank you for this information. The only think that I would like to say is that towards the end of the video I was becoming more interested and counting the number of times you said "OK" This to me distracted from the contents of you very informative video. Sorry to make this comment but I just thought that you might like to know this. This is just my personal opinion

Very well done, a great overview of JMRI. One problem I had was not being able to connect to a COM Port. I had to go to my Windows control panel and get into the device manager. I found that my machine had only a couple Bluetooth serial ports. I had to add a serial port (COM 6) for my JMRI to connect to my DCS210+. I thought if you ever do more videos you could show users how to do this on their Windows machines.

Thanks, your comment will help guide other users to the device manager and checking for the correct COM port until I get the energy to add it to the video. (Some day)

I’m having the same difficulty can you explain how to fix this? My port keeps showing a yellow triangle over the port icon.
@markwitham41983 жыл бұрын
@@andrewthomas9777 Try right clicking the port icon and select remove device. Then go to top of device manager screen and select scan for new devices. A new usb serial port should be added. I hope this helps

I got a digitrax zephyr express, and I controlled it using JMRI, but after 2 minutes, the train would stop as the throttle on the zephyr was set to stop and the JMRI throttle would respond accordingly (stop). Whenever I set the JMRI throttle to skomething other than what the Zephyr is set to, it changes. what am I doing wrong? If I decide to use a wifi throttle/command station, would the same thing happen?

Got a Question ? Been a User to Computers for while but still I'm learning & trying to Remember.. All that they have in store for us.. I have a hp Core i7 vPro with Windows 10 pro I also Have N Scale Engines All DCC most all have ESU Lok Sound but a few are non sound For my DCC I'm using only NCE Equipment I have a PowerCab & a SB5 to go into Decoder Pro i assume you need the NCE interface which I'm going to purchase.. Very Soon! But can JMRI / Decoder Pro be installed without buying the Interface first & to install Decoder Pro do click a Specific Version or the Latest i see more than one Version unless there for other platforms on the JMRI site.. I'm very Green doing this but I wanna get it Right & not have something that I don't need for me I just need download that helps me program my Decoders... Thanks Allen D And if there is a Video of installing the software with the NCE interface can ya point it my Way...

As for a video, just type "decoder pro" into the KZbin search for a long list of choices (though none of the titles indicate NCE specifically.) You can download and install the software before your adaptor arrives and study the instruction pages and get familiar with the menu structure. My confidence level always goes up when I can find the menu buttons easily before trying to add the data. The same with the hardware, find DCE (from the hardware menu selection) and then the specific interface you're purchasing and download the DCE manual. I think back to when I was learning to drive, there was the state manual (software) for learning the rules and also the owner's manual (hardware) for learning the car. Don't be afraid of entering the wrong data (if nothing else it teaches you the delete functions) I did a lot of parking lot maneuvers before actual getting on the road. Relax and have fun, start the first hour by just learning the throttle and driving a few trains. Then but that old clunker (you know the one you're thinking of upgrading the decoder) on the programming track and do something like change which F function blows the horn. By the way have you started studying the "Engine Driver" software yet? (I forgot the name of the program for IPhone) Here's a quick link kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5nYhqahibx9aM0

CP/M was control program for micro processors. There was also MP/M which allowed multiple processes to run simultaneously. Both were operating systems competing with DOS or just before DOS We know how that played out. Nice presentation Jim. A lot of good detail and background. Good info on how to down load and install JMRI. May I reference your video in my presentations? I’ve been giving JMRI presentations at NMRA Nation for 3 years but with more focus on how to use it after installation.

I enjoyed this video greatly, a lot of insight withoutdelving into the details which are many. I'm looking for a similar tutorial pertaining to layout editor. I want to import my Anyrail.xml file into PP and generate a layout panel to eventually run my railroad. Everything I've found only explains how to build a track schematic piece by piece. I'm looking for instruction starting with importing a railroad layout and ending up with a layout that can be controlled from the computer. I am unable to convert my import into a panel> I am using the PowerCab system with the USB accy bd to interface with JMRI. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thx Vic

One thing, you should changee the title to intro to Decoder Pro, not Panel Pro. I got a lot out of the Decoder Pro video, if you do make a Panel Pro edition I'd be very interested.
