Jason, wondering if you guys have tried using the Gearbox Black ball and what your thoughts are on it? It is slower.....

I have not but word on the street is it is slower that the purple ball. If you get a good batch of purple balls they seem to be the best playing ball IMO.

@@jms493 Agreed! Our crew tried the GB Black balls this past week and opinions were mixed. Heard that GB made an offer to USAR and IRT and undercut Penn. So i guess these balls will be at every official tournament now? I guess I need to get used to them

@okedoke1234 in my opinion the GB black is a lot better, it makes rallies longer and makes people play more aggressive. It still feels lively off the racquet itself but it does die quicker in court than the purple

@@Cobra-IR Yep I am starting to prefer it now....agree with you. I just need to remember to take an extra half to full step to get to shots in front of me, and also, ceiling shots that make it deep tend to come down straighter and harder to play...

It is definitely a slower ball - but doesn't necessarily die faster in every scenario. It is a squishier ball, which feels like it 'floats' more in the air. I was hoping that my pinches would be killer with this, but that extra float kept some of them up that wouldn't normally on the Penn. That float also certainly does make it harder on the ceiling balls to the back. Instead of a hopeful bounce off the back wall... it just... doesn't! So that hurts rallies IMO when it comes to back wall play. I wanted to fight this ball with every fiber of my being - but I came to the same conclusion you did... it's the new tournament ball.. everywhere. IRT, IRF, Canada, etc etc. Can't believe the IRT, which likes to bill itself as the 'fastest sport' decided on using a clearly slower ball... hah
