The Story:
The Avatar is frozen in ice. After escaping the Fire Nation attack on the Air Temples, an airbender named Jonin flees into hiding as Fire Nations assassins are deployed to eradicate the remaining Air Nomads. Jonin is haunted by the voices of his fallen people and is left with a choice: He must decide to either remain in exile or risk his life, seeking out the remaining Airbenders.

So much emotion here. 😭 I could feel all the grief, fear, loneliness Jonin is feeling and no words were needed to convey that. I really got the sense that he is merely surviving but not truly living in the here and now of the story because he's still "living" in the moment of the genocide. Looking forward to seeing the rest. 🌪🔥

I absolutely loved this, I believe that this really captures a lot of the essence of what makes ATLA great partially minus the humor (which is totally ok) but I don't think by any means it's a "dark take" but I think it really tackles the emotional feelings that 1 would have having experience the show once before, I encourage everyone who's a fan of this to tweet at Janet Varney & Dante Basco or anyone else involved in the ATLA Universe to bring this to their attention and hopefully they appreciated It as much as us fans do or retweet it to give them more support for their films.

This is absolutely amazing, I honestly believe that you guys captured a lot of the essence of what made A:TLA great & fits well in LA even though it might be interpreted as serious or dark I still think there's a lot of room for levity & comedy, I also think it is/could be on par with Netflix's LA A:TLA. I think you guys are doing a great job and I'm gonna be tweeting directly to Dante Basco & Janet Varney who voiced Korra & Zuko respectively and host the Braving the Elements Podcast

I love the Buddhist, Hindu, and Aboriginal, Inuit philosophies that this shoe is based on. The word Avatar is a Sanskrit word meaning, manifestation, "reincarnation", and or projection. Easter's philosophy is underrated as the concept of "Maya" which means this existence is a dream state until we wake up. Hope this show acknowledges ancient wisdom.

This is beyond masterful! Such well-thoughtout storytelling in so many scenes with hardly much dialogue and setup for the next installment; you and the team are true fans of the source material! To see how much care and attention to detail you guys have been just in this segment alone is staggering! I like that this takes place in the time between the genocide and the main series too, giving reference to what we know and shedding some light on what came before the show we enjoy. Plus, it gives depth to the airbenders by seeing how things were impacted right after that attack on the air temple(s) too by seeing it through a survivor's eyes living on bare minimum. I can only hope the creators of ATLA have/will see this and be as amazed as we are! I look forward to seeing Part 2 soon!

I’ll try to give some of my thoughts in a short review/first impressions. Cinematically speaking this was beautiful. Perhaps even overdone at certain points as they are beautiful shots for sure but at times interrupting the established pacing. There are certain shots here that don’t really add anything to the table. I think it might be a good idea to be more critical of what’s shown. All and all though, massive respect for the visuals. It’s not easy to acquire the ‘professional’ look you’d see on big budget productions but these visuals compare well enough. Moving on to the music and soundwork. I was seriously impressed by these as well. The music stays truthful to the ATLA universe with some creative freedom here and there. Some SFX that stood out to me were the impact sounds. This can be heard at 15:42 for example. Sounds fit great with the movement and this is a great example of that. Something I didn’t like as much was the music playing at 11:45. I felt like the flow and subject of the conversation didn’t match the eerie sounding music. The music felt like a threat was nearby, though that wasn’t the case. Even though this is subjective, I still felt the need to address it. Something short, fan-made films suffer from the most, is cheesy acting. Well, I’m glad to say the acting was quite good! Nothing spectacular, but gracefully done in the scope of the project. The writing was a mixed bag, some good some less good. Some parts felt like characters were exchanging sentences instead of having a conversation. What I’m saying is, it could feel less robotic. Overall though, the actors really pulled me in. Good stuff! There’s one thing which I think this first part is lacking, and that would be continuity. Most notably for me in the color grading department. I can tell more cameras were used. I’m not sure if both cameras are using different picture profiles but it seems like that is the case. Shot from 10:28 = blueish tints. Shot from 10:31 = greenish tints. This happens multiple times throughout the film, and can be especially jarring when suddenly jumping to a different area with a completely new colour palette. There’s some small continuity errors like the transition between shots at 14:35 to 14:38. It seems they are either A) just starting to walk, or B) not walking at the same speed as the shot before which creates an awkward transition. About a minute later, at 15:14 the camera is a little too shaky given there is no action going on. It seems to be the only shot having the shake, and is therefore lacking continuity. It’s nitpicking really, but I hope some of the stuff I said hasn’t been spotted by the team and can be improved on for the next part. Once again, massive props to everyone who worked on this.
@JNJstudios
@JNJstudios Жыл бұрын
This is amazing and professional feedback. I felt like we just got a legit critic who watched our video. Thank you! I have to say, as director, writer, principle editor, cinematographer, and "colorist", a lot of the flaws seen here were on my shoulders. I put colorist in quotations because I suck at grading and we were shooting 4 different profiles from 4 different camera brands. So for part 2 either I get better or find actual colorists lol. And after working on this project for the past 2 years, I was definitely aware of most of the issues. A lot of the problems were due to time constraints and lack of resources, and the rest were me trying to figure things out. Haha. But the rest of the team--the VFX artists, the composer, the actors, are so talented and really put in so much work, bringing this project to another level of quality and with a limited amount of time in between their day jobs. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. But now my expectations are set, and I'll be looking for another in-depth review from you on our next release. 😉
@renSrr
@renSrr Жыл бұрын
@@JNJstudios I’m glad you found it useful! I am a filmmaker as well, so the paragraph about trying to make everything work with limited time and resources is really recognizable, haha. If I have learned one thing it’s that a shooting day always takes longer than you’d expect. It’s hard when working with multiple parties to get the perfect shot as you don’t want to get behind on schedule. I have however learned to never rush anything. If it’s not as you want it to be, it’s worth re-shooting. The ‘don’t rush’ mentality is likely to result in a longer project duration, but for a passion project that is perfectly fine. Either way this video is the result of 2 years of hard work and you should be really proud! As one filmmaker to another, realizing a project on a scale like this is inspiring, and a dream come true! I’m looking forward to the next part and will surely be giving another in-depth review! Kind regards.

This was just incredible, I actually feel like this character could maybe try to lay low like the Jedi during the reign of the Empire keeping their heads down while the main character Luke or in the case Aang is out there learning to master the 4 elements to defeat Ozai.

Eh pretty good, a bit too much focus on cinematic landscape shots for my taste but it did a good job if conveying the emotion without even using much dialogue I guess, I’ll make sure to keep notifications on to see where this project goes

This is in reference to the early credits, Were the airbenders the keepers of hope really? Didn't aang say the monks thought him hope was just a distraction?
@JNJstudios
@JNJstudios Жыл бұрын
Agreed I think it’s more keepers of a peace mindset more than anything. But because they had the next Avatar they were literally the hope for the world to overcome the fire nation. That was our take on it. Love that you actually thought about it though

The Last Airbender," but it's important to clarify that there isn't a movie titled "Avatar: The Last of the Airbenders - Part One." "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is a popular animated television series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008 and follows the story of Aang, the last Airbender and the Avatar, who must master all four elements and bring balance to the world. There was also a live-action film adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" directed by M. Night Shyamalan, released in 2010. However, it received mixed reviews from both critics and fans of the original series. If you're referring to a different movie or installment, please provide more details.
