She is not ready when she met Laurie, i think it symbolizes how she never wanted to dance before, but when she met Friedrich, she is so ready to dance with someone and actually enjoys it.

Yes! I totally agree with you. I get why they added that scene at the end where she says that her character won’t get married and the publisher is like it’s romantic. And yes she wasn’t ready to marry anyone until she realised that she was ready and that she could be alone and not be dependent on a man. Once she realised what it really meant to be in love and to be with someone. I haven’t read the book. I bought a copy but I can’t start it. As it’s hard to read, I am always falling asleep by page 2.

Jo and Laurie both need an anchor. A stable personality that would ground their flighty tendencies. Jo was right. Had they marry, they would hate each other. Laurie needed a dependable wife who still belongs to high society. Jo needed an intellectual who understands her passions. It was a right match.

She never loved laurie as a lover, she had always viewed him as a bestfriend. When she regretted rejecting his marriage proposal, it wasn't because she had developed certain feelings towards him, it was because of her loneliness. In the 2019 movie adaptation, saoirse and timothee had so much chemistry that despite alr knowing the plot, people rooted for them.

I love these two to the moon and back. True story Friedrich is mainly based on philosopher Henry Thoreau. Louisa was in love with him. He is the romantic lead in all of her novels. Fritz in Little Women, Mac in Rose in Bloom, David in Work, Adam in Moods. Of course, Jo falls for him. Henry was also known for carrying an umbrella. Unbelievable how Greta Gerwig spent millions of dollars promoting hate speech against his character, saying that Jo and Laurie should be together while simultaneously saying that Jo should be alone. She didn´t do any research on Louisa and on top of that made racist statements on Jo´s love interest. Louisa wanted to marry Henry and start a school with him. Gerwig really seemed to have hated the novel.

@littlewomenchannel 3 жыл бұрын
@The Croissant 🥐 Yes, Louisa and her publisher came up with the spinster aunt image, but Louisa struggled to live up to it because she was incredibly lonely. There are quotes in her diaries about how she believes that she and Henry re-unite in the next life. It´s sad and even more, that people like Greta Gerwig make fun of the writer they say admire.

I think a lot of people misinterpret Alcott's dislike of being forced to have Jo to end up with someone due to our modern feminist lens on the situation. I don't think her desire for Jo to be alone had the same kind of motivation as someone now might have. Not saying Alcott wasn't feminist in her own way of her time but I do think we need to have a little perspective.

s a kid, i shipped jo/laurie ; as an adult, it's got to be jo/bhaer. because Jo, in the beginning of the novel kept repeating how she wanted "to be a boy." with Auntie March she was never quite agreeable. the closer Jo got to Laurie, the more--i see it--that she'd secured the masculine characteristics of her nature well, that she felt safe enough to express the feminine side she held. (Teddy, unlike most boys his age, enjoyed piano, singing and songwriting... not too much dance & elegances) when Beth has scarlet fever, Laurie visited Amy daily without fail, as promised, saw to her will, and just always came to her as promised. he remembered the little things, like her love of carriage rides,art & how she loves to be complimented/bejeweled, & where her favourite little house for an engagement/marriage was. when Jo declined Laurie, he threatened to kill himself and then drank in Europe until he was misery as company. Laurie didnt bend for Jo, he was himself. Mr bhaer taught Jo that talent was worth far less than pride and doing right, as Laurie did from Amy. Mr Bhaer was masculine & soft, but as hard as needed. he & Jo were kindred in ways most could hope. he didn't want her to write things she couldn't put her name to. in the book, he was much older and less attractive than in film. jo saw herself as homely and awkward; she never cared for looks as much as Amy would have. they both had lost a sister they loved; adored children and learning so much. he wanted to love her and made an effort by showing up. it was the same Laurie did for Amy.

:( Yes, it's such a bummer that balls aren't a normal thing anymore. Although, in DC they have balls during the season each year. They are open to anyone who purchases a ticket and are often held at embassies! I've been fortunate to stumble across the opportunity and have attended two or three. They are very cool and I would highly suggest. A plus side to this modern era is that people from any social strata can attend if they can afford a ticket and a gown or tux. IDCS's French Embassy Viennese Ball, ICDC's Austrian Embassy Viennese Ball, and the OAS Ball are just a few events held annually.
