Laurie actually gets to experience a profound love with Amy but his soulmate is Jo. Keep in mind that often times people exclusively use soulmate as strictly romantic, I see it as platonic or romantic.

This version finally did right by both Amy and Jo in regards to Laurie. Even when it seems she is regretting not saying yes to his proposal, she not once confesses romantic feelings for him, and in her letter she says that she does not want to live without him and even that is more about the friendship she had with him. That's taken care of when he is her brother in law but the truth is, he is her brother and only confused his feelings for her because he'd yet to feel love of a different kind so he didn't know it existed much less how to tell the difference.
