Joachim Meyer's Sidesword: Parrying Techniques Part III - Observations & Heuristics

In this video we complete our deep dive into the foundational parrying actions described in Meyer's 1570 Sidesword treatise.
We make a series of observations about parrying actions, and how they integrate into the broader system, and distil 7 key heuristics for parrying effectively. In doing so we see the relationship between earlier German systems of fencing, as well as links with fencing theory from Spanish and Italian fencing systems.
This is not an exhaustive analysis; however it's a great place to start deconstructing the broader system.
