People say that Joan should have received greater recognition and popularity but I don't agree, having loved Joan since hearing the first chord from "Love and Affection" back in 75 right through to her most recent work, I have felt blessed and special to be someone who really appreciates her work, rather like people who drive an Alfa Romeo who have that knowing look that they drive something wonderful. Love you Joan, thanks for all your great songs.

An extremely under-rated musician. Discovered you in the 80's and been a fan ever since.

Very haunting song. Somehow the literalness of the video did not enhance it for me. The words, her voice and the arrangement are all that matter. Every song on this album is a treasure. Joan at her best.

I've never experienced a more perfect description of the dying days of a relationship, sublime, and then the singing that is like grief, I'm lost for words 😭😭😭

My favorite song. Ever. Painful but says it all. Reminds me of a line from another great singer-Ferron: "And the coldest bed I've found does not hold one...but it will hold three" I've been single for more than three years. I can't imagine falling in and out of love again in my life.

An incredible moving song. The voice, the bass finished off by the guitar at the end - I just close my eyes and absorb it all. Thank you Ms. Armatrading for sharing this song.

Remember when I got this album Joan was new to me. I had no idea how much music she had already put out. This is still one of my favorites as a whole. The entire album is awesome

The most heartbreaking of songs. With Joan's gorgeous lyrics, true to a huge hold love has on all us humans, unless you're not human! Her emotions are poured into it, as she does really with all she does. Mark Knopfler's soloing guitar almost crying the tears of a broken heart, Phil Palmers sympathetic guitar accompanying and oh my God Pïno Paladino's deep growl from his Fender Fretless bass. Never to be forgotten, not in my life anyway.

I've always been klepto. Dunno what it is about that (yes I do) ... glad I avoided substance abuse (only _"nearly"_ alcoholic) and criminality (w000f ... skeery time.) So as I was saying about giraffes, the girth of chet baker isn't dependant on the sun's orbit. Nudge-nudge, n'est-ce pas? *_/gut-wrenching sigh*/_*

I thought we had it sweet But your mind's played A trick on me I thought that I'd be with you All the time And I'd be fine Yeah I'd be fine I'll swear you have my feelings Under thought control I know you've taken Such a hold on me I'm thinking more and more Of what we had before Before we lost it At the shouting stage Before the days we'd sit there Side by side Without a word And how that hurt How could eternal love Made above We were so in love We were joined up at the sides How could two people Be as one As one Blind from the same light Be out of love with love In no time I thought we had it made But my mind's played This trick on me I thought that I…

while I love this lady with so many great records. I dig all of her stuff from her debut in 74 to around 83 more so than her later recordings. Not saying I don't like those it's just like most of the great ones. Their first 5 to 8 albums tend to be there best. I really do dig this song and surely in her top 25. Just my humble opinion. She's still doin it!!
