Love 46:22 and the spontaneous mid-sentence trill. Super human.

Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne were dazzling audiences with their artistry long before anyone heard of Pavarotti, Domingo and Nadine Sierra!

If you look at historical 18th and 19th century singers most studied every day with their teacher. Today singers can barely afford one lesson a week. They were drill in solfegge, all the necessary ornaments required including trills. With the advent of Wagner and Versimo opera these ornaments became less important. Unfortunately they were also necessary in Puccini, and Wagner. Think of the trills especially for sopranos in Manon Lecaut, Nedda, Brunhilde to name three. Some agilty was also needed for instance in L'altra notte. I would love to find someone who'd be willing to work daily with me! Preferably in Italy, Germany, Scotland or Austria since I plan to move abroad next year.

I love them both, especially Joan. Her comedic timing is priceless. That said, this conversation was COMPLETELY useless... They keep on saying "you have to work on that" 46:20 Joan's trill was still perfect at 72 (and better than Marylin's)
