2017 HOT HOUSE de Tadd Dameron... arreglo Luigi Grasso
JOAN CHAMORRO OCTET PLAY LUIGI GRASSO'S ARRANGEMENTS
FEATURING PASQUALE GRASSO
Joan Chamorro saxo baritono
Luigi Grasso saxo alto
Joan Martí saxo tenor
Rita Peyés trombón
Joan Mar Sauqué trompeta
Paquale Grasso guitarra
Luca Pisani contrabajo
Esteve Pi bateria

Over the past few years it's been a pleasure watching Joan Mar grow from a really good young player to a really good player period. And that is one great solo by Rita.

What a HOT bebop-performance! All soloists are on fire, especially trumpeter Joan Mar Sauque has outdone himself (again). The rhythm group (led by Pasquale Grasso) has a fantastic groove! Just a small correction/addition: The composer's name is Tadd (with dd) Dameron. Composed in 1945.

That guitar solo is breathtaking, I dont personally enjoy trombone, but i will listen to Rita P anyday, and this solo was especially good, Joan plays as if Sonny Rollins were on Baritone, and that's a big compliment, and the trumpet solo? Dizzy? and a good time was had by all...! Praise God I'm Satisfied!

It's amazing to think these old bebop standards (over 70 years in this case) can still sound so fresh. Compositions such as this seem to bring out the best in musicians with an aptitude for this idiom, as evidenced in this totally dynamic performance. Feel the heat !

I still believe we are behind bud powell. He was the only guy to take Bird's stuff to the next level. Then a load of shit came when people realised they could make commercial money. Miles fronted it.
@martinroberts8469
@martinroberts8469 6 жыл бұрын
JoeDeLucia D - I guess you have a point here; I think the turning point was when Powell took a severe beating (by police?) in 1947 from which he never really recovered. This must have lessened his chances of progressing beyond the "next level" and holding back the development of bebop as he may have envisioned it. Also, the fact that much of his time in his remaining years was spent in and out of psychiatric institutions probably played a part in assisting the creeping-in of the commercialism you speak of.

Holy Smoke!!! that was swinging. Great arrangement and playing by my paesanos the Great Grasso brothers. I'll highlight Joan Mar's trumpet solo in this one. Might be the best I've seen him do but he is a great young musician for sure. But everyone really played it well, very well. Love that high speed, smooth cruising beat ...(is it called 2-4 or 4-4 as my high school jazz friend used to mention back in the late 1960's. He played sax and drums and went to Berkley in Boston. His dad played the Contrabajo ) ...Esteve was flying along through that one. Great way to start the day for me....thanks everyone! Oh, one thought I occasionally mention....How about a mic a bit closer to the base ? Love that mellow sound. Have a good one, D

It is said that the descending two-note motif frequently used denoting the end of a bebop phrase or solo - 0:10 ; 0:36 ; 0:53 ; 3:28 ; 5:44 - actually gave rise to the name " Bebop"! I believe it was Dizzy Gillespie who came up with the idea ... well, he would, wouldn't he ?!

Slowly but surely I'm being turned into a hard jazz fan, not just my usual dilletante. The "octet" and Luigi's arrangements make for exciting, compelling experiences. Time after time. I think these are classic in their own right. The Rita moment here is another of her gobsmacked head shaking in disbelief moments 2:50 as JMS narrowly avoids a burst blood vessel. Luigi looks approvingly at this new convert to high voltage jazz. Zzap!

I just discovered that Luigi Grasso had an octet called the Luigi Grasso New York Allstar Session with his brother Pasquale and Stefano Doglioni on bass clarinet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a36XgmhnaqqYpM0 one of the videos. I couldn't find a CD. However, saxophonist Chris Byars formed a sextet that included Pasquale and Stefano and recorded the CD New York City Jazz in 2018 and 2 or 3 additional CDs with the same group.
