My dad, when i lived with him as a twenty something but didn't quite connect, used to sing along to this when I'd play it... I remember him singing along outside my closed door where he sat in his living room, as a way to try to connect with me. Makes me miss him.

Her eyes got huge and she reached out and grabbed my thumb and held on tight for the whole song. Now she keeps singing "Should we go outside?" 14 years now... could it really be? But then again: Nowadays, Joanna is no longer the sort of singer you'd picture sitting in a tree wearing rural clothing. She turned into something much more universal and her music is so incredibly versatile and eclectic, offering so much divesity from album to album and from song to song - a symphony orchestra... and a banjo ("Emily"), reinaissance instrumentation ("Kingfisher") or a philosophical, yet heartbreakingly emotional bona fide pop ballad* that still has a lot more in common with "Stairway to Heaven" than with "My Heart Will Go On" ("Time, As a Symptom") - and that's not even scratching the surface... *yes, I call it "pop" because the song is actually based around variations on a simple five-note motif, a simple, pleasant chord progression, no shifting polyrhythms or odd time signatures. It's just so expansive you'd never notice

What an incredibly beautiful, unique video this is. Just letter perfect. Joanna Newsom has a special gift and her music is truly one of a kind.

whenever I feel a huge change in my life I come back to Joanna and more importantly, this song and the song Emily. It always results in a change for the better. I hope she knows how much she’s done for a lot of people. The crickets are singing outside my bedroom window.

Wow, my new favorite song! Love it when I find a favorite song but especially before the song is even half way through.

Props all round, great singing, song writing, video, clothing, videography and yet so deceptively simple!
