Most of these things didn't happened in the same way, but we can't deny that Joanna had a sad life. I believe if her husband and her father wouldn't use her name and they would have let her rule, she could have been an amazing queen. But they locked her in a room for years.

Hey guys! Here are some answers for many times asked questions: - show: The Spanish Princess (it's also in the description) - No, Joanna didn't sleep with Henry - Yes, TSP is terribly inaccurate, and it's so sad how they treated her (like other characters), and it makes me angry as well By the way, thank you for every likes and comments, I find it still shocking how much of you watched this. Love you!! ♥️

While Joanna did not sleep with Henry VIII IRL, Charlotte Hope and the executive producers did confirm that he slept with her on TSP. The show was terribly inaccurate.

I honestly think that Joanna of Castile could have been been a great queen if she didn't have co-monarchs or regents, or if her father or husband could have just let her reign, she could have been the greatest queen to this day, but sadly she was just remembered as Juana the Mad the crazy queen May she rest in peace

Historians now say that it wasn’t madness Joanna had, but clinical depression. There is a Spanish series called Isabel that focuses on the reign of Isabella of Castile, Joanna and Catherine’s mother; in the third season of the show, it shows Joanna and her marriage to Philip and kind of portrays Joanna as possibly being bipolar. Don’t know what historians say about Joanna being bipolar, but it’s possible

I am Spanish and I was pissed off how "The Spanish Princess" portrayed Juana and her relationship with Catalina. They had a good relationship and Juana would never have slept with Henry; first because she was very much in love with Philip and second because she was a devout Catholic (as was the entire Trastámara family). In addition, Juana called her last daughter Catherine of Austria after her sister. In this series, moreover, the actress who plays Catalina (Charlotte Hope) is not very expressive and has no character. She doesn't do Catalina a favor.

Joanna was such an interesting and tragic historical figure. I don’t believe she was “mad” as it was far more convenient for her father and husband to claim that she was incapable of rule in order to fulfill their own ambitions. In fact, I find it interesting that apparently Joanna was very intelligent and even quite revolutionary in that she was known to have been a religious questioner and that she reportedly expressed some more agnostic sentiments and that her mother did in fact take issue with-though not to this extent-but it was more so Isabella as a deeply religious woman being concerned and expressing her concern about her daughters soul and not any noted abusive behavior. I think it would’ve been interesting to see a Queen of Castile who wasn’t as much of a religious zealot as her parents and who maybe could’ve been more open to religious tolerance if she truly was more apathetic toward religion in contrast to her overly zealous parents who instigated the Spanish Inquisition and all of the subsequent horrors committed in its name.

@@Silverharafox "A sane person to an insane society must appear insane." - Kurt Vonnegut Many people today frown about what was considered acceptable and "no wrong at all" or "decent" during the time of their grandparents. Now imagine what was considered the norm in the 1500's... People back then believed in a deadly mix of self-righteous religiously fueled "destiny", that God blessed their every move (this *still* happens in religiously indoctrinated placed even today) no matter how morally reprehensible that was and that people all had their place and shouldn't question it. Women back then were pretty much the property of their husbands and even if they were noblewomen their worth was nothing until they "married somebody powerful or influential". *Males* who dared claiming that the Earth revolved around the sun and that the world is round were burned at the stake for being "heretics". If a woman dared getting "out of line" she was proclaimed mad or wicked. A sane person will indeed lose their patience and composure facing hordes of ignorant people all parroting the same thing over and over again.

Juana wasn't then "Queen of Spain", but Queen of Castille, while her father was King of Aragon, Naples and Sardinia. The first and only regnant Queen of Spain was Isabella II in the 19th Century.

That is because The Kingdom of Spain was not formed until her father's death in 1516. Its first ruler was Juana's son, Carlos or Carl as he half German and heir to the Holy Roman Empire. He became Emperor in 1519 upon his grandfather's, Maximilian's, death. It also why Henry VIII never had Catherine as her nephew Carl was one of the most powerful men in the world. That is why she had the longest life of Henry's six wives, died naturally at 50.

When her mother married her father both reigns united Juana was the Queen of Castille on 1504 and then Queen of Castille and Aragon in 1516. She was not only the Queen but she inherited all the New Spain or the New World in America. Her mother Isabella and Fernando financed Columbus and the discovery of the New World made them very rich and extremely powerful they owned half of the world.
@janefelix3821
@janefelix3821 4 жыл бұрын
@@commeunouragan I'm aware of that. It was just that she suffered from severe mental health issues and upon Ferdinand's death in 1516, those in power decided it was best if she co-ruled with her oldest son Carlos. Essentially they made Carlos the King and put Joanna to the side and at that point decided to create a united Spanish Kingdom which included their New World Colonies. Three years later in 1519 Carlos's paternal grandfather died, Maximilian, who was the Holy Roman Emperor and since Carlos's father had died, he became the Emperor so Spain was more than happy to have him in both roles, which would make Joanna even less important, as she was not a Hapsburg, the lineage for the Holy Roman Empire
@commeunouragan
@commeunouragan 4 жыл бұрын
@@janefelix3821 The Hapsburg lineage did not have the New World riches, It was because of Isabelle and Ferdinand that Joanna was wealthy and because of Joanna's inheritance (the gold of the New World) the Holy Roman Empire was created. @janefelix3821
@janefelix3821 4 жыл бұрын
@@commeunouragan I know that the Hapsburg did not have New World Riches at the time as the Germanic Kingdoms did not build up a navy. That is why even with great armies, they never were part of the Exploration Era, that went to counties such as, Spain, Portugal, England, France, Holland, the nations that fought over the New World (Americas). The first Germanic Kingdom that began a naval armament system was Germany (not Hapsburg) in the 1890s. Joanna did inherit her wealth and title from her parents, plus the fact that her brother and older sister died childless, thus she took the crown, she was initially 3rd in line. However, her parents wanted to cement a relationship with the Holy Roman Empire and thus had her marry the heir to that throne, making her oldest son heir to that Empire, and when her brother and older sister died, both childless, he also became heir to the newly formed Spanish Kingdom, along with their New World Empire.

Very recent evidence suggest she had her famous breakdown when they took her son away, little Ferdinand, and only then she lost her mind, not when her husband died. She had lots of bad luck when he died and she ruled for a year, but was worked against by a bishop. There was also plague snd famine and she had no experience to rule wit that. So she put off making decisions on that but she did rule in some smaller ways. Then her father came during spring when the winter famine was over, locked his daughter up and took her son away. She opened Philips coffin to check if his body was stolen or ruined by enemies. The procession was slow because of the plague and her being pregnant. Also, Catherine was imprisoned along side her and she grew up to be a great queen, something extraordinary as locking up csn do serious damage to a childs development. there are lots of things we do not not for certain of Juana but its hella complicated and interesting

She was betrayed by her husband, son and father. She might have been bipolar and her parading her dead husband around Spain for months might have been due to her mental illness.I also think she was very intelligent and that was dangerous for a woman in her time I believe she was tortured by her parents because she didn't buy the Catholic doctrine and that was the way they made people " believe" . She may have been isolated and punished as a child for her lack of interest in religion. This added to her feelings of alienation and anger. A very tragic and misunderstood figure. By the way.. it was widely known there was a great incidence of maddness in her maternal family' s side. That was used against her by her horrid father.

I don´t think so. This is accurate feminism. Look what they have done with Princess Urraca of Leon in a spanish series (El Cid) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJvJmqNpoq2cjpo Can you understand spanish ?? because what Princess Urraca tells is just inaccurate feminism , that´s mean : propaganda. And we´re talking about Princess Urraca of Leon. The Dame of the Grail : kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWXGYoughLt4ipo&t
