When I have family over I typically make either a Sunday dinner type meal (fried chicken roast/ham corn green beans/collard greens potato salad rolls/cornbread) or cookout style (hamburgers hot dogs slaw potato salad baked beans etc). For large groups, I usually bake a ham. I make potato salad in advance, along with several other cold salads. I can use the leftover ham for sandwiches, with eggs for breakfast or just about anything.

Juggling it all has been so exhausting!! I work full time from home and take care of my youngest who has autism. Restrictions have eased a little now in my state in Australia and we can have most things run again, but not full capacity people at sport games yet or big concerts etc yet. It always feels so good to reset after having company. You asked about meals: I like to have some freezer meals ready in advance, just take them out in the a.m. and throw in the oven at mealtime. Some favorites are Mexican lasagna, baked ziti, and turkey casserole. We also freeze beef and chicken cubes in marinade (usually one pound in each quart size bag so you can grab just what you need); defrost and cook on the grill in one of those grill baskets. Put together cut vegetables and fresh pineapple in another grill basket or roast in the oven. When finished you have deconstructed shish kabobs. Those cinnamon waffles sound amazing, too.💓

I clean my waffle maker with a wet rag and a lil soap and after wipe with a clean rag with water, once dry I spray non stick spray and wipe with a napkin.

My go-to is a baked potato bar :) People love it because it's so customizable. I'll often do chili with it too (you can do canned or homemade) and some sort of roasted vegetable (mushrooms or broccoli) and then a bunch of store bought fixings (cheese, sour cream, bacon, chives, etc). I like it because all of the prep work is at the beginning and then the potatoes can sit at warm or room temperature forever basically lol

Hi Joanna! I’m not sure if someone had commented about the waffle iron yet, but...yeah, you’re not supposed to “wash” it per se. Use a wet paper towel/cloth and wipe it clean. Waffle irons “season” much like cast iron pans ☺️ Love your videos!

I tend to stay simple with meals for large groups, ( backyard bbq, taco night, finger foods, pizza, or ordering to-go from a restaurant). I find that when you try to get fancy, it's more expensive and people can be picky. I also try to have a simple alcoholic drink if its adults, or snacks if there are kids.

We have family over almost every weekend! We usually barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs and the usual bbq sides: potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, etc. When we get tired of that we get fried chicken or do four or five giant sub sandwiches that we can divide into a few sandwiches each. Everyone pitches in so it’s not just us feeding everyone (hubby has a very large family!!). I don’t think we’ve ever had less than 8 at our house on any given weekend!!

Besides Thanksgiving and Christmas, any other family gathering we have we typically do Burgers/hotdogs/brats or pulled pork sandwiches, and we a variety of sides. I usually always make buffalo chicken dip, Italian pasta salad, and brownies. We also have one kind of potato like chips, potato salad, french fries, or fried potatoes. We always have a salad and/or a veggie tray. I love that we usually always have leftovers for lunch and/or dinner the next day!

When I was thinking 'where's my Joanna's video?' and searched on youtube, I've received a notification. I've missed you lady. I hope everything and everybody is fine and safe and that you have a good time with your family and friends. To clean my waffler I need it to be a little warm. I sprayed Dawn dish soap and scrub it with a dish brush. I clean it with a wet microfiber cloth to get rid of the soap and remains. I rinse and clean several times to get rid of the soap. The clean dish brush helps to put the microfiber cloth in all the holes.

Peppermint oil spray and a couple of pots of growing mint plant near doors and windows helps to keep spiders away

We have pest control come out quarterly. They always do the outside but if we notice anything on the inside they will come as needed for no extra charge. It helps my anxiety lol

I live in north Texas in a wooded area and we used to have an issue with wolf spiders!! They love wooden furniture so we changed our bed frame and I made a DIY spray with peppermint oil to spray the wooden trim we have and it worked so well for us. I will warn you, it will bring them out so be prepared but they really don’t run or jump and are easy to kill, just very scary looking!!

Lavender repellent towards spiders. So you might want to try some lavender oils or glad Pullin to help get rid of the spiders. They will show up at first running from the scent then they will go away. You can also try a lavender plant inside your home

When we have people over I always do something I can prepare early in the day, clean up the kitchen, and throw in the oven when people are over!:) I hate being in the kitchen when people are over- I want to spend time with them!! I've done enchiladas, mac and cheese casserole, sliders..... etc etc. Also a black island would look awesome!!! Especially with the other cabinets white and a lighter floor!!

How the messes seem endless. Then I thought how rewarding it is to have a family that is using our home to every extent like playtime, meals together, and so many other memories. Oh and about the waffle maker, the heat plates (where the batter is poured and waffle is cooked on either side), those things should come out. Usually on the side there's tabs you pull back then they become loose and you grab them out. They'll pop back in after washing. I have one, and I purposely make pancakes instead of waffles just so I don't have to take those plates out to wash them😝 Pathetic I know, but you know, mom life💯

Dishes you can try very easy i have a go to seasoning i use for pretty much everything mainly meat its called sazon by badia its no MSG and is gluten free u can make lemon and pepper on chicken fry boil pasta with alfredo sauce or chicken ,rice and slice tomato if u put mayo salt and pepper on it oh you would love also i get boneless fish put the seasoning not too much cause it can be salty with a side of any veggies squash cut and saute when u do the fish put butter and a little oil a meat and a veggie is what i do its more keto which is healthy 🙂 always look on youtube dinner dishes will give u more ideas

I love the mud room. Aztec, farmhouse feel. Love it, my house is like that too. Just choose the right paint finish for the island. Flat will show oils from your hands. And you can't clean it. So I'd go satin or eggshell. And make sure when you paint it if you use a roller go up and down because in the daylight u will see the roller marks going so dark. 😀 but I'm sure it will be GORGEOUS 🌹

Really love the black island idea, it would go great with the mud room. I think I would do the hardware on the island stainless steel to match your appliances. When large groups come to my house if my husband isn't bbqing, I do a Crock-Pot meal because it feeds a lot of people and still let's me entertain instead of being in the kitchen the whole time. #norosiezone
