A little more about the bag: Originally, I designed this tote as a charity project donation suitable for shelters and family crisis centers. It's a practical and pretty two-tone tote, fully lined and ready for shopping, gift giving, traveling, etc! I hope you enjoy making one or more. thank you Joanne always like different ways to make totes as it is my go to project when I am stuck for something to do and its a good way to use up my scraps. I like to sew the buttons on by hand too fiddly on the machine. You are always clear and concise in your instructions.

Why a zig zag instead say the triple stitch

Either would work Celeste. I think the standard zigzag is a little less bulky. I like to use a narrow zigzag like this to wrap the edges together and keep them strong so they don't pull apart.
