Joanne Woodward is one of the finest actresses in the history of American film. She fully deserved her Academy Award for THE THREE FACES OF EVE. She does amazing work here. She is always more than good in everything she does, whereas most of her colleagues are lucky to be just average in what they do.

I remember reading somewhere that Joanne Woodward was asked by the press beforehand what dress she planned to wear to the Oscars. She answered that it was one she was sewing together herself. When she won, none other than Joan Crawford said: "Joanne Woodward has set back the cause of Hollywood glamour 20 years by making her own dress."

She also made that dress herself! Which makes it even more special - she's a very down to earth, unpretentious and humble people that you'll find in the history of the acting business. She certainly had the money to buy a designer dress for the OSCARS - but chose to make her own. It's sad with how ill she's become. Her Alzheimer's is very progressed - I cried when Paul Newman died in 2008 and I'm sure I'll cry when she joins him in heaven. I love old, classic movies and she & Paul are two if my all time favorites.

Sad that Liz Taylor & Lana Turner for their mediocre performances were nominated instead of Patricia Neal, WHOs Amazing in A Face In The Crowd, & Guiletta Masina who stole the show in Fellinis masterpiece Nights Of Cabiria. +Ricky Sisson Anybody who considers Turner a better actress than Woodward is worthy of pity. "Stale" my ass. Eve has "stood the test of time" to use your trite phrase, and Joanne's performance is still generally regarded as a tour-de-force. The audience's ovation for a young woman in only her third film speaks for itself. She is one of the best.

+TheChannel.TV Is there ever a moment between the 3 characters she played where one can be seen muddled with the other?? No. Not at all. That says it all about that performance for me. And, remember, the 2 Eve's also progressed in nature and evolved during her performance. When you add the fact that because of actor availability, set design and script changes films are never shot in sequence, it makes anyone who knows anything about movie making realize how difficult this roll was to pull off.

For me, Lana Turner was perfect and excelled in "PEYTON PLACE". Joanne Woodward is a fine actress but even Miss Woodward admits her performance in THE THREE FACES OF EVE was a surface portrayal. I believe Miss Woodward has actually been better in many other films she made that followed "Eve". I felt Joan Crawford (way ahead of her time) played a schizophrenic better in "POSSESSED" (1947). I felt Miss Woodward won for the ROLE. She deserved her nomination however, but in retrospect, I feel so sorry LanaTurner never received an Oscar.

They wanted to raise their kids in a halfway normal environment, so they chose Connecticut, not Hollywood. Who could blame them?

I don't know if Newman and Woodward were snobs or not but I think them not wanting to live in Hollywood makes them less snobby, not more.

They both gave autographs and neither were snobs.
