I was wrong to write what is below. You were only comparing todays songs to those of the sixties and seventies. Ignore what follows. BTW: I Liked and Subscribed. This is a GREAT song but there other periods of AMAZING songs - the period Jazz Standards is another. These are the songs of Sinatra, Gershwin, Joe Pass, Billy Holiday, Duke Ellington, Body and Soul, Night and Day, Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, The Mills Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald. Those songs are still loved today. Then there’s all the Blues that came out of the Delta that begot Clapton, Dylan, Stones. But this is a GREAT song.

I’m just here because this was my uncles favorite song. He passed away and I’ve learned every lyric of this song. I’ll never forget them. This is the song I can just cry to. I’m thirteen and this song is relatable and gives me nostalgia and I don’t know how. It’s like the lyrics just clicked.
@macmacdonald4996 Жыл бұрын
The song is absolutely timeless and can be related to by every generation. I was about your age when I first heard it and understood the lyrics...heard it probably about 7-8 from my "cool aunt" who listened to AM radio rock in the 70's. And there would be a lot of crossover Motown and R&B. I am sorry for your loss young Lady. I pray that you find comfort and solace in the memories you have while you reminisce !! Peace and God Bless. I sang this with 3 diff bands I have been with and it brings excellent memories to me as well, but different reasons. Nonetheless, it proves a song can mean many things to many ppl, on many different levels. But we can all appreciate the place it has in our minds. Enjoy.. and explore diff versions of the song...the original and John Mellencamp's versions are my favorites.
