The Angolan dance Kizomba is conquering the world. Kizomba is a couples dance that was created in the 80s and is now conquering all of Europe as a new trend dance. The word “Kizomba” comes from Angola and means “party, celebration, celebration.” P.S: I mean like all cultural assets, so must the dance, the magic dance Kizomba be maintained-.

Kizomba was not created in the 80s. You do not learn 2 different couple dances in Angola, you learn one which you adapt to the music. In the 80s Angola was in a civil war, how was a new dance being created by someone and then transported to every families in the country? No. What happened is that in the 70s DJ started experimenting with different paces of Semba music (slowing alot of the fast ones down) as well as playing music from the carribean (Kompa). In the end of 70s and early 80s, Eduardo Paim took inspiration to create a new music style which people started labeling Kizomba (Which means a party where you would dance Semba to different musicstyles). Don't confuse Semba with what the teachers in europe teach, that is Semba Show which is a competition type of Semba in Angola but is marketed as Semba (Semba or Semba Social is the same dance as Kizomba).

When the follower moves backwards in prep for the leg slide what is the weight placement of their legs like 80/20 (80 on back foot and 20% on front) or different?
@JoaoVeraDance Жыл бұрын
Hi Samith 😁👍 on the begging we advice a even bigger difference of weight. Something like 90% on the back leg (or even more if the couple is having problems with the step). Than with time the goal is to the 80-20 like you said 👍👍

Does the tension in the frame increase when distance is created and relax when the distance is reduced between partners? Looks like you’re leading with your body and tension and connection in the frame when leading the girl for a step while you’re not taking a step. Also do you create distance by simply expanding the frame and not inviting follower into the space? Thank you!
