We hear so much of Rodrigo's Fantasia para un gentilhombre and Concierto de Aranjuez . I find it so refreshing to hear this work of Rodrigo for the first time.

Right, Brian. There is so much more to Rodrigo than these two you mentioned, my favourite being Concierto Andaluz btw! :-) But this cello work IS lovely. I'm hearing it for the first time, too.

For years I had this on a cassette and played it to destruction. I never thought I would hear it again except in my imagination. It is every bit as good as I remember, like meeting a much loved old friend you thought you had lost touch with. Thank you, you have made a middle-aged man with motor neurone disease very happy.

One of the loveliest openings to a piece of music that I can think of.

lyrical, sorrowful, profound masterpiece

Some wonderful orchestral textures here, particularly during the hypnotic, mystical-sounding Adagio (6:12 - 18:40), and Polo is a top-class soloist. There is much to be enjoyed in this concerto/divertimento....

Second movement so mystical, dreamy.

Have not encountered this! Any new (to me) Rodrigo is part of the MADRE LODE! Been a fan since 1966!
