No joking, Batman! Rain and Summer welcome their brother Joaquin Phoenix to LaunchLeft for this sibling-powered episode. They ask questions and offer opinions on Joker as Joaquin graciously shares some great on and off-screen moments. The Phoenix’s also reminisce about childhood, making their parents go vegan, and their love of music. And finally, Joaquin launches Rain’s new record ‘River’ as they discuss their older brother's profound impact on them growing up. Close to home. A very special LaunchLeft. Rain performs "Immolate" live to close the epsiode.

I just think the time of Late Night host interviews and mainstream TV show hosts is dead. You never get to actually know the people being intereviewed and the gags are dumb. Long form is where it's at. I'd love to see Joaquin on Joe Rogan's podcast.

He's an amazing actor, no question. Honestly, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that at 45, he's still self-conscious about a teenager making fun of him. I'm almost a decade younger than him and I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago. But then again, everybody's different

@Meexi I fully understand you, it's like this funny song of two girls singing "I'm just like you, you're just like me" damn. Relatable in many things, although I'm afraid of using any kind of drugs or alcohol, since it's sort of escapism and definitely no good. Living with such amount of stress and anxiety sucks so much, still, when the darkest thoughts enter my head, I have a little hope for the better things and it keeps pushing me forward.

His guard is up because he is an introvert, and they questioned him about the violence that the film shows while nothing was ever said to Keanu about John Wick. It just seems like a lot of interviewers try to provoke him, which they do to a lot off people.

@Masked Movie Man Joker is only INSPIRED by those movies only in the aspects of making a complex storyline (viewer have to decide what was real or imaginary) and including some of the reference (Easter eggs type thing). But it's base story is not inspired completely by those two movies . The base story is inspired from the killing joke comic book . And I seriously don't understand how In any sense it's a "surface level" . This was a very complex movie . It's not just the ending of the movie that can be interpreted in different ways . There are several scenes in the movie that can be interpreted in many ways . So I don't really understand that how is it a "surface level movie" of its genre . Please elaborate. And by the way , Martin Scorsese himself said that this movie was remarkable. (Just saying)

East Coast Surfer So true. Notice Joaquin rarely if ever drank any water, which he constantly does as a nervous tic in all other non-family interviews. And no deliberately trying to confuse the person interviewing him. So honest, self-aware, self-critical. So not Hollywood. What a refreshing dude.

@@kd2289 Totally agree with that. I don't know about everyone else but, don't you just find yourself on the edge of your seat when you know Joaquin is about to get interviewed on late night shows or whatever show on any network television.. and it's almost comes with a sense of real suspense, because you feel at any moment it can go from ok and smoothly then ( I'm so sure that Joaquin does this on purpose).. He creates tension either for the interviewer or for the audience, and it's like Oh, shit.. where will it go from here... Or I used to ask myself "Did the "host" say the wrong thing which may have triggered him to get uncomfortable?" .. You know?.. Anyways, that gets me every time.. Yes, this is PTSD. I think it’s why I understand Joker. I understand the non linear thinking and the freeze experience. I’ve been there so much. It’s why I want to write my life and why I foster kids and why I want to help kids who’ve had trauma. I think this film really shows us the spiral of mental health issues and losing the therapist leads to his spiraling. And the part where he’s off his meds. I don’t relate to the full blown break down, but I have PTSD and I do appreciate that this film is shining a light on that.

i love that he doesn’t care about the people who criticize him. he even agrees with what they say. i mean of course if someone is talking sht without any logic then i don’t think joaquin would like that no human would but i think he’s okay if people criticize him and have actual valid reasons instead of just saying he’s terrible and that’s that without explaining why he’s terrible. am i making sense? probably not. 🤷🏾‍♀️

At the end of day, criticism are just someone's opinion. Opinions are nothing more but someone's thoughts. The problem with our society is that people take opinions as fact and thus think it's true but they have to remember they are just someone's thoughts.

Sonia D well there’s constructive criticism and then there’s people who are just blatantly hateful and insulting and they call it constructive criticism when it’s not.

He's the greatest actor of all times, seriously, even all actors say it. I mean every single character he's played feel like they're not him, I forget it's him. Like Commodus doesn't even feel like its the same person as the brother on that Mel Gibson movie and he's even physically different, its so strange. It's like it's not the same actor playing them, right? This is very rare. I mean other actors have also made me feel that, but not every single movie.Though that movie Inherent Vice felt like it was Joaquin, but all his other characters just feel like it's someone else. Just amazing.
