Why do you think it never occurred to Dimitri to bring up the fact that he had helped Anastasia and her grandmother escape? He seems to have totally repressed that memory, but when Anya remembers him opening the wall, it triggers his memory and makes him realize that she is truly Anastasia. He could have even used it as part of his con, before he knew that she was the real Anastasia.

It was already a traumatic memory. The palace was being seiged, the royals panicked and murdered, Dimitri performs a good deed in helping Marie and Anastasia escape through a secret passage and in return he was knocked out with the butt of a rifle by rioting revolutionaries. When he came to, he learns his country has changed, the royals dead, the monarchy dead, Marie made it out but Anastasia didn't.
@howlingdin9332Ай бұрын
Because he wasn't sure she was the real Anastasia until they got to Paris and Anya recalled memories only Anastasia would know. There's a bit where Dimitri tells Vlad and they're both processing that they'd found the *actual* princess. Dimitri has already gone through a long lineup of Anastasia lookalikes trying to put his con together. It wouldn't make sense for him to assume that any of them are real.
@Sisyphus27Ай бұрын
@@howlingdin9332 But he also could have coached one of the Anastasia lookalikes by saying that he saved her life during the storming of the palace, and that would have worked for his con.

One of the few times Kelsey Grammer does a voice in an animated film where he's not a villain. Seriously, when it comes to voices in animation, Kelsey Grammer seems to be typecasted as villains like, Sideshow Bob ("The Simpsons"), Dr. Frankenollie (Mickey Mouse in "Runaway Brain"), and the Prospector ("Toy Story 2").

The animation's amazing, and all the more because its held up so well! I wonder what it would like in computer animation...
@quillmaurer65633 жыл бұрын
Many scenes in this movie are 3D computer animated with hand-drawn texturing. I don't think any in this particular section (except maybe the water reflection VFX) but a lot of other shots of moving things (such as in the train sequence) or with camera pans (such as scenes in the palace). Very distinctive effect, was quite common of movies of this era. Very well done, and the animation is gorgeous - each background painting is incredibly detailed.

Vladimir is based on Count Vladimir Frederiks, Tsar Nicholas' Chief Court Minister. He was like an uncle to the Tsar and his family, he called the Tsar 'mon cher' and his children 'mes enfants.' After the revolution he stayed in Russia and walked the streets in his Imperial uniform in protest. The Bolsheviks saw him as a harmless eccentric and left him alone.
