The Directors Cut of Kingdon of Heaven is the only way to watch this film. The man the queen is treating, is the Grave Digger who buried Balians wife and is one of the men Balian knights later in the film. He even recognizes him before the battle and refers to him as "Master Grave Digger". They also cut out the explanation of how and why Balian understood Castle Construction and therefore defense. The priest in the beginning was actually his brother, who wanted Balians meager holdings for his own. He tried to convince his lordship that Balian was mad and had him imprisoned, but the Lord demanded he be released, that Balian wasnt mad and he was just grieving for his lost wife and child. The Lord needs him back to work, making nails and somesutch for the Cathedral of his castle, if i remember correctly. He even gives the priest a bag of silver to give to his brother Balian, along with his sympathies. Balians brother, the priest, pockets the silver and continues to chastise Balian. Seeing his wife's necklace around his thieving brothers throat was the last straw.

All Hollywood nonsense. The Saracens always lost. Crusaders always defeated 'themselves'. Usually like in this depiction of the Horns of Hatins defeat, it was always the French for some reason who pig-headedly defeated themselves by trying to 'gain honor' or 'belief they would win with a simple attack', in some situation that they're overwhelmingly ahead. Once the French guy took over it was over, and the crusaders threw away one of their best armies they had assembled by themselves in the desert; that is the only thing that is not depicted too harshly tbh. Looking back, we were far too nice to Muslims/Arabs when we depicted them. Muslims are glad when we give them quarter, or apply Christian levels of tolerance, in our more successful societies, but they are mostly not giving the same to us. It is an example of us giving far too much leniency to someone who sortof was not even deserving of it. The jews and the muslims who grew up in our country now take our ideas we teach them, but they don't revise their holy books which talk about the goyim and infidels (nonbelievers) and it shows what they truly believe or are fools to believe. If a man doesn't take action when there is cause for it, it is immoral. There is no difference when they pretend to be peaceful or take advantage of what they think is our weakness, when in reality they believe in jihad and are indoctrinated like a warlike inferior breed, that we defeated always when they outnumbered us at all cases. They do not change their teachings and show they don't understand it, or play ignorant to it on purpose. In reality Saladin was just loosely controlling forces that usually were too problematic and unruly. He was likely a good leader and we know because of this. But in such films we generally depict Muslims as being somehow lenient or giving them too much credit. The reality was they were usually inferior forces that could not defeat Crusaders, and had to live like outlaws waiting for little chances to strike. But many times, Crusader armies just became led by an idiot who marched them into the desert or somewhere away from water and where they were already unstoppable; and some leaders tried to march them into the desert, for no reason. Few had the actual ability to do so successfully, and of course, no one would have the actual manpower and logistics to go into the desert very far, even if they managed to take some vital strongholds for a time.

oh my GOD tugging the towers sideways is SO SMART omg... even if they had more towers they probably wouldnt even be able to reach the walls and on top of all that it probably crushed some of the soldiers too! OH that was such a good move.
@ParallelPain3 күн бұрын
It's epic on screen, but I doubt it would work in real life simply due to the material strength, in this case weakness, of wood. If the counterweights were heavy enough to tip over the towers, then the planks and any joints and nails that held up the tower's walls would likely give way before that and you'd end up with a hole on the side of the tower, not a tipped over tower. To tip the tower over in such a manner you'd likely need to tie the rope with a loop and knot around the tower.
@Sweetness717752 күн бұрын
@@ParallelPain Or the bolt would be ripped out of the tower before it fell. The bolt would need massive claws to latch onto the sides. Even, you'll probably just rip off some side panels. However, that would provide an opening to throw ignited clay pots loaded with oil into the tower and burn it from the inside out.
@sam236962 күн бұрын
Plus you have the strength of the ropes as well. We take for granted the polymer ropes we use today, being able to tow cars and such, but in these times with this much force, and the sudden tug of the counter-weight, they would just snap. The thickness of the rope required to avoid this would prohibit them being fired by the scorpions.
