Im not an environmental science major ( I’m a chemical engineer) but I’ve been interning at a waste water treatment plant for 3 years. Really an eye opening experience and I highly recommend it.

3 years of internship ? paid internship or unpaid. 3 years is too long for doing internship.

@@unravelnature2397 lol I worked during winter and summer breaks from my sophomore year through senior year in an internship related to my field of study where I got paid. That's a good thing, and not too long. Haters gonna hate

@@noras39 I am not your hater, I am your lover, Okay !! what I think is Internship should be of short term and its all about learning new things. 3 years of internship at same company, that sounds not very good. You should keep working for different organization, that's how you learn. sticking to same company for more than 3 company just for internship is a pretty bad. They don't pay as needed, they just want you to work more for low salary.

I’m a senior in high school and kind of between English and environmental science. The only thing keeping me from environmental science is chemistry I hate hate hate hate chemistry, any advice on what chem is like at university and how to get through it?
@EvelynPaige
@EvelynPaige 3 жыл бұрын
Hahah I was choosing between the same majors! At Clarkson you need Chem 1, 2, and Organic Chem and then you are done. I really enjoyed college chemistry because the professors were really fun. I think you just have to change your mindset. If you are into environmental science and helping to save the planet, think about how chemistry is a cool way of understanding the planet, what it needs, and how it works! Also, if you are struggling with a class, you can always go to the TA or Professor’s office and get help!

@@EvelynPaige Hi Evelyn, did you by any chance look into renewable energy? I am considering a career change and perhaps doing a degree in Environmental Science. I'm a first time college student about to enroll in classes but idk what to take. I'm definitely torn between a biology major and an environmental science major because I like the science side of environmental studies, but that major seems pretty limiting in terms of future careers. Do you have any advice on decision making when it comes to this? '''^_^

First year biology and environmental science classes are pretty similar (general bio and chem, maths…) so you don’t need to decide yet:) and there are so many career options with either major

I'm a senior in highschool and I've heard a lot of jobs may have a bad work-life balance, since ppl may have to stay in the field for a while for research purposes. This turns me away from the degree because I want to be able to come home after work every day. I dont know if I'm misinformed, do you know if there are jobs in environmental science (other than education) that have a stable work-life balance and schedule?
@EvelynPaige
@EvelynPaige 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm I would have to do more research but I would say definitely yes. It depends on if you want to do research, or if you just want to do sampling or consulting for a company. Working for a company as a scientist and not doing research in a lab or for a university would definitely have more regular hours

MaryClaire Yabut absolutely! If you love it and want to help make a difference do it! There are so many jobs you can get - it’s such an open and ever growing field! For me, I’m not worried about finding a job, I’m more worried about choosing which direction I want to go in - so many options!

MaryClaire Yabut Just for some extra feedback. It’s an extremely competitive field. Everyone says it’s GROWING, but that doesn’t mean environmental related work requires environmental science majors. It may make way more sense to hire a chemist, an engineer, a lawyer, biologist, and so on. I would think hard on how you want to give back to the environment, and what kind of work you would want to do.

I’m an environmental science major. I wonder if you can find a job in renewable energy with this degree.
@EvelynPaige
@EvelynPaige 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely! My college has minors in renewable energy I think so I would look into that, but also look for internships and co-ops with renewable energy companies! They look for environmental scientists all the time as people who can do environmental assessments, see how the technology is impacting the environment and ecosystems, and help them to comply with environmental laws! If you want to actually be building renewable energy tech, I would look into engineering majors
