Jocelyn Brown discusses her voice behind SNAP's record "The Power" on BBC1 TV Interview

BBC1 live national UK television interview with soul star and disco legend Jocelyn Brown, with discussions covering some of the highlights of her career as one of the most sampled voices in dance music history. The interview includes discussion regarding the use of vocals from "Loves Gonna Get You", a Jocelyn Brown song, having been sampled a multitude of times, by the likes of Moby (Jocelyn's vocals featuring in Moby's hit "Go") as well as the world famous "Ive Got The Power" sample, featuring Jocelyn on lead hook line vocals and as the lead title on SNAP's number 1 hit record "The Power".

Jocelyn is truly a legend, and has sung on soooo many artist's albums it's difficult to name and/or count them. With Snap, they used a sample from her, so she never sang WITH them. I'm sure there are many more tracks out there with Jocelyn that we don't know about. She's truly amazing!

I have a friend that was super into the club scene in Houston in the 90's. He worked for a club. He told me that one of his jobs was picking up artists from the airport and bringing them to the club and to the hotel. He picked her up and met her. He told me about how the real person who sang that was a heavy lady and they used a skinny lady for the video because it looked better.

The hook "I've Got The Power" used by Snap is taken from Jocelyn Brown's track 'Love Is Gonna Get You', which was written by Toni C (Antoinette Colandero) and produced by John "Jellybean" Benitez - and was released in 1985 - FIVE YEARS before the release by Snap, making the suggested claim here that she stole it from a producer in 1989 obsolete.

And the Snap's song "The Power" isn't sung in its entirity by her either...the only thing she can claim it was "stolen" from her is eventually the major chorus line "I've Got The Power", because the rest of the song was actually recorded and sung by singer Penny Ford who also did vocals for other Snap track singles!...

Well it's the line "I've Got the Power" that makes the song. Because they have a version without Penny on the song; just rap vocals and Jocelyn Brown's vocals

Oh my gosh, another black woman who never got credit for the song they sang in the 90's dance music. This is the 3rd group that did this- Black Box, C + C Music Factory, and now Snap. At least Marky Mark gave Loleatta her voice & face in his video, Good Vibrations. Had no idea this was going on. I don't know anybody else- Martha Wash, Everybody, Everybody- Martha Wash, Strike it Up- Martha Wash, Gonna make you Sweat- Martha Wash, Ride on Time- Loleatta Holloway. These were major hits of the 90's. These women deserve credit for making these songs mega dance hits.

I got the original 12 inch single called ‘loves gonna get you’ I think 1985, not one of her best but on the b-side (remember b-sides children), was a full accapella of the song). Hence where it was stolen from. Bizarre the group Snap did not sort it out beforehand

+Victor Urena "The Chill Rob G version" was released AFTER Snap´s "The Power". First: Power Jam ft. Chill Rob G who was "created" by Snap who used samples of Chill Rob and Jocelyn Brown to create this song after that Chill Rob and Jocelyn Brown sued them for using their not authorized samples after that Snap Re recorded a new version with new Raps by Turbo B. and authorized vocals by Jocelyn Brown. And After that Chill Rob G decited to use the first "Not Authorized version" (which included his own vocals) to get a release on his own record label. So tell me who is the Azz here?

Her point was that they titled the song 'the power' and the album "world power". When you conjure a memory of the song, you dont think of Penny Ford's efforts..... you remember the main hook! "

WRONG. We dance club regulars knew her from "Somebody Else's Guy" and her lead vocals as part of various girl groups on Salsoul Records. Many of us knew her before Snap's record.
