I thought all I wanted to do was relax and have no responsibility as I neared my 20 yr mark. Turned out I was lost for about a year after I retired from the Marine Corps in 2012. Luckily I was lured into Wild Land Fire Fighting and spent 4 years "Getting after it"! For any Military guys or girls out there that are out, if you are looking for a challenge, and are still in shape and hard as nails check into Wild Land Fire! Fighting a wildfire is the same as fighting people except fire is more predictable and you use different weapons. The Leadership, training, Tactics, are all very similar...I am no longer in the Fire business, but look back at those 4 years with as much pride if not more than I do on my 20 yrs in the Corps... I relapsed 3 months after being clean and overdosed in my basement while my wife was asleep. My dog went to the top of the stairs and started crying and then actually woke my wife up. When I was revived I was told I had about 30 seconds before I would have been gone for good. 100% crazy but true story! I would just implore anyone to always keep an eye out for friends and family for signs and if anyone is ever in this terrible circumstance do everything that you can to life that person up!!! I have lost 7 friends from a town of 4000 people in the almost 3 years I've been clean. I was lucky...

Awesome part of is the difference between Jocko and Echos thought process and what they bring to the conversation. Someone asked Jocko, "Do you read?". (First thought personally this fool is trying to troll Jocko) Jocko has the point that possibly this person asked the question without researching the podcast, which delves into paramount literature, thus making them lazy. Excellent point from a pragmatic view. Echo DETACHING himself from the situation makes a sound point that perhaps this person is trying to genuinely ask that from a sincere stand point. Excellent point from an anecdotal view. Genuinely feel bad just commenting on certain podcasts because they are all fucking badass.

I am not American so as a result I do not identify as Republican or Democrat; in matter of fact there are issues on which I disagree (or agree) with either "side". You guys are talking about having concerns for the outside world at age 18...but when I was 18, I cared mostly for myself. I don't recall being mean-spirited about it, but I generally didn't care about much beyond my immediate environment. I had then and still have a ton of respect for people who serve in the military, but I am very grateful now that I didn't have to do it. I remember being terrified at age 20 when I filled out my Selective Service card, thinking the Army would show up at my door any moment...and I lived stuck in that fear over the next six years. People kept telling me I'd never qualify due to my epilepsy, but I was convinced I'd end up dead or in jail any minute.
