I am a nurse. For nearly all of my 27 years of practice, I've worked in and around critical care. Jaco, you mentioned how quickly a person can bleed out from a Femoral artery is so true. The fact that our soldiers who have their legs blown off, arms blown off, or legs and arms blown off, and additionally, the concussive, force trauma that accompany such wounds, is overwhelming. Yet, so many of our soldiers survive. This is a testament to our military corpsmen and medics. It's also a testament to how much mercy is shown to all brave soldiers around the world by God the Father. It really boggles my mind.

2:48:00 I am an airline captain. We are trained that when an emergency happens, after we carry out the memory items and ensure the plane is safe, to hand the controls over to the First Officer and put the seat back because it opens up our field of vision and lets us see the whole cockpit and, with the bigger picture, allow us to more effectively manage the problem.

Listen to this podcast reminded me of "eating souls". On humps or runs or tough PT sessions I used to see someone drop and I'd pretend I just ate their soul as fuel to keep going. I used to love watching people drop because it fueled me. Really helped for those drunk formation runs at 4am.

But also for those whom have gave the ultimate sacrifice. May God for ever and ever bless these brave men and women of the United States Military. 🇺🇸 Jocko Willink and Echo Charles thank you for bringing these stories to life for us who would have never known. This has been the best Jocko podcast yet. It’s not the most exciting. But it is the most motivating, and I don’t even have a physical disability. I’m just am aging guy with no military background with a warrior spirit for life. This guy is an amazing operator, and athlete. He has lived his recent lives life by “prioritize and execute” and I’ll add and be calm with that Buddhist life learning.

I must say that feeling sorry for yourself for catching the flue is quite pathetic, so I wholeheartedly understand how listening to Dan’s story must make you feel…
@amyrenee1361
@amyrenee1361 2 жыл бұрын
First of all, you can feel sorry for the hits you take, because they are YOURS. Nobody else is feeling your pain, and nobody else is in your shoes. So you don't need to feel sorry for anyone else, and you are allowed to feel sorry for yourself. With that said, you don't stay in that mode. You feel the pain, cry , complain a little - but you keep moving forward. Catch and release. You can say "this sucks". Just don't let your whole life suck. Don't carry that self pity. Once you start ignoring your very real pain and acting like your experience doesn't matter because someone else has it worse, you are on a downward trajectory. YOU matter at all times. You're here to live YOUR life, not anyone else's. Having COVID sucks. People have died from COVID-19. Some have died from the flu. What are we going to do? Say our pain doesn't matter because at least we aren't dead? Get THROUGH your bad moments rather than denying them. Don't lie to yourself. Deception, in any form, leads a man/woman to ruin

2:11:00 Dan is alluding to a medication called succinylcholine which is a neuromuscular blocking agent used by anesthesiologists to produce paralysis in order to facilitate intubation with an endotracheal tube to control breathing throughout a surgery. A concern with using this medication is a release of potassium, which, if the patient’s potassium is already high could lead to fatal cardiac arrhythmias and even death.

Yeah, I started my application my senior year cause I had never thought about being military. I had actually been accepted to USC(Cali) when I got a call from a Lt Col from my area. He encouraged me to apply; I qualified BUT didn't have the nomination, of course, cause I was way too late. So I ended up going to the Air Force Academy's Preparatory School for a year and got a nomination from there. And I totally agree, the friends you make there are lifelong friends...you suffer together so your bonds are extremely strong.

Normal people - "Jocko! Tell us a BUDS story!" Jocko - "No. BUDS was such a small part of the whole job, it is not worth talking about much. Mostly the only people who talk about BUDS are the guys who didn't make it and that was their 'pinnacle' of life because they can tell people they went/are going to BUDS." It’s the same thing in performance practice🎻 you just have to do…not analyze what you’re doing in the moment…to just stay present with doing what you’re doing, especially with an instrument as unforgiving as the violin!!…it’s hard and takes years to “perfect”…(although little kids are amazing at this because they’re just excited about what their doing and not thinking about anything else!) a lot of musicians take pills or drink to deal with it, but it’s really a special skill to cultivate if you have the courage to just deal with your own mind.😅🎻💪
