Vincent "Rocco" Vargas was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. Vargas enlisted in the United States Army (2003-2015) and went on to serve 3 combat deployments with the 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Vargas also served as an infantry Drill Sergeant. He then left active duty and entered the reserves with the rank of Sergeant First Class. After leaving active duty, Vargas worked in special operations as a medic with the Arizona Department of Corrections and then the U.S. Border Patrol but left in 2013 to pursue his career as an entertainer.

At what point will these brave strong warriors start to talk about the corruption of their leaders and the poison of the global war machine?

Excellent discussion. I’m excited to read his book. His analogy about comparing the border to your home was spot on. This really opened my eyes about the border and the danger, the stress, the emotional aspect of the job.

What's up Vallero! Good to see another kid from the SFV making some waves. Your life story is so rich with blessed life and family stories, that I almost forgot you were a Ranger. Respect, Vargas, mad respect.

I think it was interesting early on how Jocko validated his fears in Ranger Batt on deployment. When he talked about how hard it must have been to be in those situations and have the intense fear of death and desire to live. Now I did know a few guys who went AWOL right before deployment (deserted), and their reasons boiled down to "I didn't join the Army to die" This always felt odd to me because I never expected to survive the Army. From the day I signed and shipped, I maintained the attitude of "I'm likely gonna die, but I'll make em earn it". Don't get me wrong, I was scared often anyone who says they weren't is lying. Jocko and a lot of the guys he's had on here seemed to be the same way. So in this respect I suppose this guy was more brave than both me and the guys that went AWOL/deserted. He not only wanted desperately to live, but he did the job til the end of his contract too. Initially, I thought it was kind of a weak way of thinking but he fought through it and got out when he knew he should.

Great interview as always. In regards to Boarder Policy, I'd like to comment. Its very simple. The Boarder shall be closed to illegal entry and if your first action is to break THE LAW, you must be removed from the country, not excluded from future entry but informed of the process and deported. If you have an actual asylum claim, you shall follow international law and seek refuge in the first country where your asylum can be granted. That does not mean the country you WANT, but the country where you can actually find refuge from the actual threat. Poverty is not a reason to seek asylum and the standard is legally defined. Secondly, our Immigration process shall be reformed. Those who seek to immigrate are caught up in the bureaucracy of the federal government. This has to be better. Yes, there are many circumstances which lead people to Immigration. The Law must be followed and the government is not following the laws. An invasion of the USA is happening and this is NOT a debate. We must know who, what, when and where immigrants are during the process. You have NO rights. Rights are reserved for citizens and limited rights under legal visas. Our Immigration process has many flaws but The Citizens of the USA are owed a sovereign boarder and the laws must be enforced, even if they arent perfect.

Hi Jocko, another awesome share. Truly. Modern history. I just wanted to suggest, because I know you are an open minded dude, doing a podcast on Joan Of Arc. She was quite pivotal in a rather fierce war and her leadership skills must have been exceptional. There is no way of understating the risks she took and paid for. Point being, she rallied the troops. How do you do that? Regards from Sheffield uk

She was the standard bearer and symbol. She was used, poorly, for others gains and then tossed aside when no longer useful. There are a couple decent books covering what is known. Forget the titles as it has been a very long time since I read them.

If it’s so hard to figure out how to get our immigration problems fixed, maybe we just need some time to think. A football team gets ready for a game in advance so do the staff and vendors at the stadium. They don’t just let fans in before the game and tell them yeah everything at concessions is free for you. When the people who paid for tickets come they can cover your bill. No these things are planned because they are important. Not unlike immigration policy. Close the border down entirely with military! Just until we have a f^&*ing plan! Then resume normal operations. We don’t owe anyone immediate entry. They can wait.
