Guys I don’t know what you’re talking about. The family wanted the death penalty and even at their statement at the trial they expressed their disappointment in how the law has failed them. This was a fail. The family wanted the death penalty not life in prison. The prosecution failed to get that, so not that amazing nor flawless 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s sad that the family didn’t get what they wanted

It's ridiculously annoying how many times the defense tried to interrupt and call for mistrial. I really hate it when a defense has clearly lost a case so they try to get a mistrial because they want another chance to win. Your client is guilty of murder. Convicted. Just shut up and let them receive the punishment they deserve, you're done.

Just like in closing, Mr.Martinez. stated ,when you have the truth the facts and the law on your side,that's what you argue.. when none of this is on your side 'you just argue'... that's not verbatim but you get the point.. .

You have never dealt with a lawyer have you haha, it’s either no win no pay (they get 90% of the settlement to go away) or they clock as many hours as possible and charge you for it. To represent yourself requires 100’s to 1000’s of hours depending and they cash in on that fact.

Nurmi tried every way possible to get removed from her case. She was as difficult as a client as she was in the stand. She even tried to represent herself once and he thought that was his out. But she got her ass handed to her in a motion hearing and she asked for her attys back. A death penalty case public defender has to put on the defense that the client wants. They cannot put on the defense that is viable and realistic. Nurmi knew she was full of crap but it was his duty to the constitution that he see that’s her rights in trial we’re not trampled on. As you will see, sometimes the judge sustains his objections. Mostly overruled but not always. He knew she would be found guilty.

A very sad state of affairs for the judicial system. A juror, who knows, in advance, that she is against the death penalty, which is provide for by law, has no business sitting on the jury without advising the Court that she ALREADY had her mind made up prior to the "penalty phase". She should be held in contempt of court. This case was a "prime" case why the death penalty if provided for by law, and furthermore, her actions show clearly why she should have gotten the ultimate penalty, otherwise, there is no reason at all to have it on the "books" at all. A circus of what a murder trial should be, since it has been over 6 years, YES, 6 years, and at great cost to the people of the Country. A lot of other CONVICTED people have received the death penalty based on a lot less "factors and evidence" but this case seems to be a reflection on our times, and is scary as to how the Country and future Court proceedings will be handled!! I hope that "juror" is happy with herself and her actions and can sleep well, knowing that she herself, broke the law, and has now allowed this un-repentant killer to go on living and having a life until the days she dies of natural causes!! Disgusting and so very sad!! How much pre-meditation does it take, and when will the Judges be held accountable for allowing the "circus" to go on and on and on!!
@531katie

Except she didn't say or indicate that her verdict was based on what she's against. Supposedly it was based on the case as it was laid out before her. One of the rules in the justice system is unanimous consent in both the verdict and the sentence. I would be very happy to review the 2nd part--just to eliminate the political influence and from either side--someone's who's unable to put a defendant to death as well as a vindictive revengeful person who's looking to put someone to death. The guilty vs not guilty phase is less vulnerable to political influence plus the emphasis is always on the side of innocence for a good reason. Too many people were being crushed by the power of the state. The presumption of innocence differentiates us from 3rd world countries where 'the state' can strong arm any weaker link in society to their death, figuratively or otherwise. But in the penalty phase, if a majority on the jury see sufficient cause under its state's own laws (ie death penalty still being a choice therefore not subject to political opinion or the next Election Day -- personally I'd move if I disagreed so much. Certainly not stand on a jury where id be asked to carry out the law or disobey the law...) to put a guilty person to death, then that should be sufficient. And no 'mistrial' otherwise-- straight to the sentence of death row or to serve a life sentence period. No costly retrial that prolongs family agony and drains the tax payer... For what ends? That's how I would change the laws, and some need to be changed. Some will never change but this could without disrupting our fundamental cause that a defendant has rights but victims have rights and tax payers have rights. And no political hack is going to circumvent the rules to serve on a jury and refuse to hear evidence. But in this case that's not what juror #17 did. You can't pick and choose who to believe. One man on the jury says she refused to deliberate while others denied this but said she made up her mind based on what she observed in court. Nobody should be subjected to the abuse that this juror is taking. Nobody! She owes you and me and the state absolutely nothing. She spent as much time as the other jurors and sacrificed just as much. Deliberating doesn't have to be a verbal contest - it can go on inside her mind, and just because you can't see the workings and I can't see it doesn't mean there's no deliberating going on. Don't you think that if this were the case that most members of that jury would have demanded of the judge to replace her? I'd like to believe that if only one felt strongly about what a juror lacked, then that's more about his arrogance than about a disgraced juror. Yes some others weren't quite sure and leaned towards the same accusation. But it wasn't enough for this judge to intervene and follow one juror's demands. I'd have wished to judge had in fact relieved this juror and then spared her from what she's being accused of now. It was wrong of that juror to repeat his personal feelings or maybe it wasn't wrong but it was singular and selfish and he out her life at risk. The mob mentality out there is scary and ugly. This judge irked me by allowing antics like defense objections every 4 sentences during Juan's opening statement. I was told she lets the lawyers put their cars on without trying to be in control like some judges. The reason to change the penalty phase rule from unanimous to a majority? To spare the courts but also the human beings who hold out bravely and then are skewered by the public afterwards.

I truly believe people underestimate what other humans are capable of. Poor Travis learned the hard way. This was completely premeditated and still there's no explanation besides he was moving on. Travis was stabbed over 30x, his throat was slit so deeply it revealed his spine and was 3 to 4 inches deep ear to ear and shot in head all while conscious. Please take my word for it and do not google the autopsy photos. I was and have been scarred for life.

I have followed many trials since I retired, and this trial was the easiest one that I have ever followed because of the many avenues the defense used including stating that the victim and arias were attacked by intruders which didn't work so the defense chose to use self-defense since the attack story wouldn't work. That was enough for me. The fact that the victim's execution was premeditated and planned to start with the theft of a gun from the killer's grandmother's house which she used to shoot the victim in the head, showed all the elements for her execution. And justice would demand that she be executed.

Stupid question probably, but aren’t they able to track down the owner of a gun by the bullet shell casing? When you buy your bullets don’t you have to present an ID which then ties you to that ammunition? Or do you buy them like lollipops in the States? 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is the penalty trial. She was convicted of murder + premeditation and then faced sentencing. In Arizona, a death penalty case requires a penalty trial. In the first penalty trial the jury was deadlocked (I believe 8-4, for death) and the DA's office opted to re-try the penalty phase. Martinez was fired from the DA's office for allegedly giving away the identity of a holdout juror in the second penalty trial - he wanted the juror to be dismissed so he could win the death penalty. He gave the name of the juror to a woman with whom he was having an affair (she was married), a blogger who was covering the trial. We are all lucky Arias did not get a retrial of the criminal case against her due to his misconduct. He may be disbarred for lying to investigators about it.

She was convicted during the first trial but the jury was hung with the sentencing. In Arizona they may "re-do" the penalty phase when going for the death penalty. Unfortunately this time was also a hung jury and Judge Stephens ended up handing down her sentence of life without parole.

Na, the jurors who saw ALL of the evidence, texts/emails etc. said that the defence painted an untruthful image of Travis in court and that he was a decent guy. 11 out of 12 jurors on this case were actually devastated that Jodi didn’t get the death penalty, as they saw right through her lies. Travis was just a normal guy who was brutally murdered in his home whilst he was naked and vulnerable and by somebody who was supposed to care about him and who had been intimate with him just hours prior. There’s no defending what she did.

How could a scrawny woman like that take on a guy that size? Was she on pcp? Who leaves a camera full of evidence on site after bludgeoning and shooting someone to death? I think a male did this and she must have been spaced out on drugs. A woman her size could never have taken on a guy that much bigger than her. Least? I can't see it. Each time she opens her mouth a different story comes out. I dom't think she's mentally competent; she's barely functional. Just my opinion. No one who would be able to "premeditate" would have left that camera behind. Something about this case is wrong, very wrong.

@shugochara9909
@shugochara9909 2 жыл бұрын
you seem extremely vacuous. premeditated doesn’t mean that you can’t be sloppy, it simply means that she had planned the murder which is proven by here actions before i.e. dyeing her hair, flipping her license plates, buying three gas cans, leaving voicemails after the murder.. etc. he could have easily been over powered considering he was killed while naked, wet and in a slippery shower, he was stabbed 27 times with his back turned… that kind of overkill is clearly rooted in passion. She’s obviously mentally competent and sane although she’s arguably very deranged. there’s nothing strange about a guilty suspect changing their story several times when they are as vain as she is and constantly trying to preserve a innocent appearance. Her leaving the camera behind us just one example of how stupid she is, she thought just by deleting the photos they were actually gone, she’s clearly not very smart.

Not sure why you have not the capability of understanding common sense. She planned the murder but not how she will handle all the possible outcomes after, just like any other murderer in history. She was not a small woman at all, she was actually as tall as he was and very strong (she’s even doing hand stands in the interrogation room after being arrested for the murder). There are no drugs, she’s just that dumb 😅
@thetruth4154

She premeditated his murder weeks prior to June 4,2008. The state has proved beyond reasonable doubts. She killed him three times over: stabbed him 27 times, a stab to his heart would have killed him, she almost decapitated him she literally saw his neck it is not a slash to his throat. She then shot him in the head. That is an overkill. The killer is a narcissist pathological liar. That is also proven in court. If you watch the trial you don’t need no damn expert to tell you that. You as a reasonable rational logical person can form your own conclusions based on evidences presented

This dude is annoying I’ve seen way better prosecutors that don’t treat ppl the way he does which leads you to think he has to do that to over compensate…NY prosecutor Marcia Clark who was the prosecutor in OJ Simpson case has an amazing amount of successes esp being in ny with their crime and she never had to do all this! There will be a case he loses with this same tactic that has less evidence and no smoking gun I believe he would think twice because it will also effect him with the jury…that’s easy to do which you have stupid amounts of evidence and all! I WOULD pay a lot of money to see him prosecuting a case against Jose Baez (state vs Jose Baez client/defendant) ohhh buddy he would sit Martinez down having him play fetch and shake like a dog!

I totally get the anger towards her due to the nature of her crime but it seemed as though at times he was disrespecting her and like he wanted to argue with her. She’s obviously guilty and is where she needs to be though.
