Decades after a news anchor disappeared on her way to work, new tips have led investigators to search a property in Minnesota.
In 1995, Jodi Huisentruit was on her way to work as a morning news anchor in Mason City, Iowa. But she never arrived at the station.
Now, almost 30 years after she vanished, investigators have confirmed they searched a property in Winsted, Minnesota, just west of Minneapolis.
According to the group FindJodi.com, the search centered around land surrounding a construction site where an apartment complex is being built.

I first saw this on Unsolved Mysteries, I pray to God they find her and give her a peaceful rest . She was such a sweet lady and full of joy. I’ve seen clips of her on her station , her coworkers really loved her as much as her family did.

John is incapacitated and the PI is unconvinced that justice will be served even if we know who did it...leads me to believe the PI thinks John did it. Either way I hope the family can finally get the information they've needed and wanted for so long.

No, because her friend John was the last one that we, the public, know who he is and the last to see her...we assume it's him. I think that John wanted them to be more than friends, but not Jodi as she was much, much younger than him, was not interested. But remember, they were together the night before, and he, as her long-time friend, had access to her pretty much any time he wanted. Why would he wait for her at 3 in the morning and feel he has to kidnap her as she is rushing to work early in the morning??? Doesn't make any sense...he wouldn't need to do that, at all, so it wasn't John. It's usually someone who doesn't have easy access to her and who he knows Jodi wouldn't go with willingly. Usually cases that are especially hard to solve are cases where strangers unknown to the victim are usually the kidnapper/murderer, OR someone who is obsessed with her romantically but feels like he's been jilted. I'm guessing that anonymous white van that she complained about a year ago may have something to do with it. A second, maybe related and more accurate guess, would be what the PI thinks...that she had been seeing another guy starting a few weeks before she was kidnapped, saw him 5 times in two weeks (which is A LOT of dating) on the downlow...and I'm guessing broke it off when he got creepy or overly controlling and she saw red flags. Yes, John was the last to see her the night before, but how do we know the "mystery man" whom she had been dating didn't call after she got home and she either broke it off with him over the phone, or reiterated a previous "breaking off" she just did? To kidnap someone is a sign of desperation...nothing is more dangerous than when a woman is leaving a relationship. The PI (& LE) probably knows who the guy is, but after 25 years, without a body, LE would not have enough evidence to convict the guy. Poor lady. R.I.P. God bless.

Very interesting. i watch alot of true crime & they say the ppl responsible often put themselves at the front of investigation 'to help' and that's exactly what he did.... 26 miles seems very specific. The fact that this last tip was “publicized”-whether it be forced or not-brings me relief and hope that they are actively investigating Jodi’s disappearance. But the fact that he says “26 miles” as a radius makes me feel like he’s got some pretty specific information.

The MN case of Jacob Wetterling was still fresh in our minds when this happened in IA. Its sad to say after all these years, that there are still no definitive answers. I remember too that the Mason City PD was highly criticized for fumbling this case. Common sense would tell anyone that a new secret boyfriend and an older "friend" (John) would/should be the 2 most likely persons of interest. Appears to a lovers triangle situation.

There is a book about the case and one of the residents of the key apartments heard jodi say no john or no Don....it's pretty clear in my mind it was him. Normally this would be odd but it was probably sections of it detailing that described the white van or her feeling like she was being stalked or concerns about the "mystery man" she had started dating 2 weeks before she was kidnapped. This is a famous case and I'm sure the head of police wouldn't have been able to release those things to point in the general direction that LE believes is the kidnapper...but can't say...so his wife did it.

There are a lot of rumors around town that somehow a police officer is involved. Also rumors she'd been investigating methamphetamine and got too nosy. Dustin Honken unalived four people the year before including two little girls and John Joseph Snyder Jr. was possibly murdered around the same time. Does very possibly seem to be a crime of passion. These anchors are like local celebs so it could have just been a random stalker too. Plenty of unsolved murders in Mason City. The fact the P.I. thinks she's in water and weighted down with a specific type of weight leads one to believe he knows a lot more than he's saying.

From known info, back then, he seemed very keen to give police as much background info as possible, including those that could self-implicate if he was indeed involved. At the moment, more likely someone from his social circles who heard him openly talking about Jodi on a regular basis. He might think the friendship was harmless but the perpetrator was likely to be insanely jealous about Jodi being somewhat close to a much older male.

I think that the PI (& LE) know who this mystery man is but can't say because, especially with no body, there's just not enough evidence against him to charge him. I agree with you, and the PI...it's gotta be a death bed confession by the kidnapper/murderer or one of his friends has to be the one to speak up. And even then, I wonder if LE would have enough evidence to convict him after all these years.

No...when asked by the reporter if John, her long-time friend (whether he wanted more or not) and the one who last saw her in person the night before, was high on LE's list of potential suspects...the PI said yes, he was. I think the PI thinks it's the mystery man Jodi was seeing on the downlow just 2 weeks before the kidnapping. Five dates in 2 weeks in A LOT of dating. Maybe he got overly controlling & creepy, so Jodi broke it off with him. Maybe the mystery man called Jodi the night before after the meeting with John and Jodi either broke it off with him over the phone (for safety reasons) or had on a previous date and reiterated it over the phone that night. Kidnapping is a sure act of desperation. John was her long-time friend...at any time John could have requested a night or after work meet-up with Jodi, and she would have willingly shown up. The person who felt he had to kidnap her at 3:00 in the morning, on her way rushing to work, knew that Jodi wouldn't want to meet up with him willingly. As to the info on being weighted down in a lake...I'm from Minnesota too. There are 10,000 lakes, and almost EVERYBODY has a boat here. The mystery man could have easily had a boat too. I think the PI & LE know who the mystery man is but don't have enough evidence to charge him, and might never have, with no body and after all these years. John had passed all his polygraphs, has been more than helpful to the police, and had absolutely no reason to kidnap Jodi suddenly in the early morning and kill her...none. But the mystery man possibly would.

Regarding a suspect that was in serious decline, constantly questioning if a final conviction could be made, and if the person was in a severely declined terminal state - what kind of imprisonment would they have? Would they put somebody in prison in a hospital bed and do 24:7 hospice care until their last breath? Wow this is sad.

My son passed away at age 26. I am heartbroken. I can't imagine the pain families go through not knowing what happened to their loved ones. People must lnow something, and need to speek up. I am inclined to think old John is the perpetrator. He seems to have been obsessed with her. She only knew the new BF about 2 weeks and it was, whirling along. Only one person we are aware of as having the gall to be offended is old John. He probably didn't like the turn down or the explanation. Don't know if he was assessed under socio or psychopathic personality disorder when he was in his better years. That said. Justice is served. Karma has come to visit old John.

The private investigator gave a lot of new information. He said a lot without saying a lot. She’s in a body of water? She was weighted down by a specific weight. The guy that had last seen her owns a boat and named his boat after her. I’m sure he has a specific weight to anchor things down in the water! How is none of this new when did you find out all of this? The diary! The fact that the PI said that John was at the top of the list you people are never satisfied

Yes it does! Especially the fact that Jodie had a secret lover? Did he drive a van..? As well as it was a murder of jealousy, and the fact that out of 14 days dating, they had been together for 5 days. Maybe she thought things were moving a bit fast and said that to him. Maybe he exploded if he is a narcissist!

@@Herstyleseduier I don't think it was John. He's taken countless polygraphs and passed all of them. He's been more than helpful to police, and has never lawyered up, as far as we know. As Jodi's long-time friend (whether he wanted it to be more or not)...he would have access to Jodi at any time he wanted. Why in the world would he suddenly feel he had to wake up at 3 in the morning to catch her on her way to work...when he could have just requested to see her any night and did something to do her then? No...the person who kidnapped her knew Jodi wouldn't want to go with him. Kidnapping someone, especially lying in wait at that time in the early morning, is definitely an act of desperation. My money, and the "new information" is on the new mystery man that she was seeing on the downlow just 2 weeks before she went missing. Seeing someone 5 times in 2 weeks in A LOT of dating...maybe he got overly controlling & creepy, and she broke it off with him. It is the most dangerous for a woman when she is leaving a relationship, that the man doesn't want her to leave. Yes, John was the last to see Jodi the night before in person...but how do we know that the mystery man didn't call her that night afterward and she either dumped him by phone that evening (for safety reasons), or reiterated her dumping him from a previous date??? Minnesota (where I also live) is the land of 10,000 lakes...it wouldn't be unusual that the mystery man would have a boat too, like a lot of Minnesotan's do. Yes, I think John I-S at the top of the list by LE but he absolutely would have had no motive to suddenly kidnap her at 3 am and kill her...none. But the mystery man, whom she may have broken it off with, would. I think they know who the mystery man is and "some" info on what he may have done to Jodi, but especially with no body, LE doesn't have enough evidence to charge him, especially after all these years. I agree with the PI...it's either gotta be a deathbed confession by the kidnapper/murderer, or one of his friends will have to come forward. Even then, they may not have enough to convict the guy. Thanks for the extra info, as this maybe the reason it was never solved? It sounds like whoever murdered her was controlling and possibly a narcissist that did not take it well when she may have said, things were moving too fast. I mean you just said that over 14 days they had been with each for 5 of these days. It does seem allot for having just met. At the moment, I am inclined to think the perpetrator was someone who wanted to get close to Jodi but was never able to get close. Jodi being close to JV was already hard for this perpetrator to accept but perhaps he could still grudgingly cope with it since JV was very much older and always maintained to not being a lover. If this secret lover was around 30 years old and was seen being regularly with Jodi by the perpetrator, this could have triggered more jealousy from the perpetrator. Understandable why the other men kept quiet. They saw how JV was still seen as some sort of a chief suspect after so many years.

Amy Kuns says Vancise called at 7:20 before they knew she had disappeared. That's not true. They knew by 7:20m that she had disappeared because the station reported her not showing up long before 7:20... My guess is he had gone by the apts. and saw LE and called to check on Jody. Amy looks pretty rough. This must have really effected her tremendously. From wika on the disappearance. "At about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 1995, KIMT producer Amy Kuns noticed that Huisentruit had failed to report to work as scheduled and called her apartment. When Huisentruit answered the telephone, she explained that she had overslept and that she was preparing to leave for the station. The scene around her car does and of course the longivity of her disappearence all point to a bad end. There aren't 33 possibilities a) An ex boyfriend or someone else from her close inner circle, like a friend who wanted more than "just" friendship b) Work-related (a case she was investigating, or definetely not to be excluded, a jealous or scorned colleague, both male or female...) c) A first time or routine sexual predator What could solve this case is a confession / boasting by an inmate to another one, who turns supergrass. It won't get solved if the purpetrator already died unfortunately....

Because there's always that slim chance that she, or any missing person, may have disappeared on purpose. It's human nature to automatically think the worst happened. But imagine going decades investigating a murder if no murder ever occurred.

I lived in Mason City at the time and remember going on a bike ride near the apartment complex where Jodi lived on the day she vanished. At the time I had no idea what was going on there but I knew it wasn't good based on the magnitude of law enforcement on the scene. I was in college back then and wouldn't learn what happened until I walked into my evening class at school. That was pretty shocking news for Mason City. :-(
