I'm from Brazil, I've tried at least 10 mouthpieces, and I chose the Jody HR*8 as my main mouthpiece, with a François Louis ligature and Vandoren green java 2/5 reeds, my saxophone is a Yamaha YTS-280 and I'm really happy with this setup.

Good point, Sopranos have that natural tendency to either play incredible sharp, well bright...or incredibly flat. It is very mellow, it almost reminded me of a piccolo trumpet in some blizzard connected form when marchingly-playing high notes in that marcato style.

I think they all sound good - just picked up a 6* HR* for tenor...dialed in my reed this weekend and now I am ready to focus on my growth as a musician...the piece just plays! Thanks for making a great product.

They ALL sound great....but I'm in the same pocket as you are currently, Jody. The Custom Darks continue to be the mouthpiece I didn't even dream of.... Hey, we're all different and you've got choices for everyone with your great line-up. Picking up my Soprano custom darks soon from Massullo Music and eagerly anticipating the Bari!!! Hmmm....I don't think there is another mouthpiece manufacturer who can do his own demos at ALL...let alone so convincingly. I also appreciate your openness to everyone's choices and your encouragement of people experimenting to find their own magic.

The DV NY is very nice sounding... But, to me, the overall balance, flexibility and timbre colours of the HR* Custom Dark (for tenor, alto and soprano) are superb! 💥🎷💥🍷💥

I currently play on the Jody jazz Giant and am interested on your thoughts now between the DV NY and DV CHI. I’m deciding between the two now.

@@sncimpala NY is much darker than CHI. NY is kind of close to Link's sound although different in many aspects. NY is better for intimate acoustic playing - smaller space, especially when the music is in the background. CHI would be a very universal one - for modern music but you can play ballads too. I also use different ligatures and a little bit harder reads for CHI too. They are both extremely free blowing and comfortable. Both can be mellow and even NY might be bright and punchy when you push it slightly in a different direction. If I had money only for one of them I would choose the CHI due to its versatility. Both are great pieces with different vibe but similar philosophy - effortless playing. I love the NY but for some players it might be too soft in response and a little "muted" but it's a great advantage in particular situations. The sound has a solid core, defined colour and it can be modified in a flexible way. Both are great on subtone level. Have a great pleasure playing and trying! I'm totally happy with my JJ. The quality of my old HR* encouraged me to invest in those DVs.

Hands dow Dv! Sound seems clear. To me the others sounded muffled in some areas.

@@jodyjazzofficial I met you at a sax day event in Rhode Island awhile ago and I was playing my Runyon mouthpiece on tenor. A piece I’d been playing for many years. I was completely blown away when I tried the DV mouthpiece. I didn’t buy one that day, but I saved up for one and got it. Absolutely love the sound I get! Now I don’t play as often as I used to gigs are few and far between. I find myself getting tired quickly during gigs. Because the air flow is so great in your mouthpiece I was wondering is there something I can do or change? I don’t do a lot of practicing. I’m just out of shape.

I really love the Power Ring ligatures. I wondered why they weren’t available in the 80’s when I had a broken ligature screw on my alto at the time. I managed to get a sound but I hated losing those screws. The Power Ring ligature solves that problem perfectly. I like the New York and the HR Dark. I noticed that the New York has a brighter sound that can be suited to playing light jazz and maybe light classical music. The HR Dark has a controlled centered sound that can sound dark. I would like to know how it sounds if played at lower notes But I will have to try all the mouthpieces with the Power Ring, with a good reed, respectively. Thanks for demonstration. Stay safe.

I am using the HR* 6* for my alto with a soft reed and REALLY love it ... looking to figure out what I am going to pick up for the Tenor ... considering the HR* 6* or the Custom Dark ... I play mostly Standard jazz and light pop tunes.
