I was a waiter. 2$ an hour but if we made even a dollar over minimum wage in tips we didn’t even get the 2$. Not only did we have to roll silverware during service, but we also were doing the bust boys jobs. The start of our shifts we’re getting there early to fix the tables bc the pegs were always wobbly, wiping down the chair and tables including the legs, we were expected to carry large trays right off the bat with one hand, expected to take care of a whole section right off the bat 12 tables all at once, and we had 2$ Tuesday and Thursday margaritas , which brought in giant groups of college kids who would bring 20+ people and they all wanted separate tabs. So imagine 12 tables, with 20+ party teens, and each of them have individual tabs you have to keep up with every fucking Tuesday and Thursday night. And when they’d leave?? The whole place would be absolutely trashed. Toilet paper trailing from inside the bathroom to the dining room, food everywhere, and tons of checks not paid for because it was so chaotic it was physically impossible to keep up with. People would walk away without paying all the time. And everyone would order food, drink, and a billion alcoholic drinks. We’d get yelled at for not keeping up with all the tabs and not watching our tables close enough and “allowing” people to walk out. Drunk people very often had to be escorted out, customers would treat us like garbage and yell in our faces, once a guy picked my coworker up by her shirt collar and screamed in her face to get him more alcohol without even asking her first he just did it outta no where. We have sizzling meat we served on hotplates i once’s burned the whole palm of my hand on one right after it was taken off the fire and they expected me to continue working. We also are expected to garnish and get the sides, tortillas, and plate the food our customers order so that means getting their side of rice, beans , cilantro, soup, melted cheese, diced onions, etc oh and we served free chips n salsa so everyone loved those and expected consistent refills along with their drinks. We also were responsible for busting the tables during all this and rolling new silverware that we had to seperate ourselves, hand to the dishwasher and when they were cleaned we had to reseperate them and roll them, clean the wood the hot plates came on and clean the back area otherwise we’d get yelled at. And this is only a sliver of how much work and effort was put into that damn job and the tips from our customers especially the ones from colleges??? 25 cents, 1$, 3$, on nearly 100$ tickets they’d rack up with alcohol. This was almost a daily occurrence especially since we were located in a rich neighborhood which you’d think ppl would tip right but quite the opposite they just treated you like a literal slave. There wasn’t a single day either me or my coworkers would have full blown panic attacks or start just full on sobbing. Grown men passing out from over working or sobbing their eyes out. It was extremely stressful so remember this next time you eat out your waiter isn’t sitting in the back having a fucking blast doing nothing.

Oh and at the end of the night we weren’t allowed to leave or get our money from our tips untill we cleaned our area so sweeping, wiping down tables, getting all the dishes , refilling salt and pepper and doing our “chores” like emptying and washing the tea tub and coffee maker, wiping off 20 wooden boards and drying them, and rolling 60 things of silverware, wiping off the swinging doors, cleaning up the tins that hold the cilantro and other toppings and soup/ melted cheese tins, refilling every individual cup things that hold sweet n low, real sugar , n stevia , cleaning the back kitchen floor, and sooo much fucking more. We were also expected to play manager if a customer got upset and fix the problem ourselves if they didn’t ask for one even if it was clearly a manager thing to deal with like cold food or undercooked food or if they made reservations but brought more people than said shit like that

And those damn college kids would stay from 6-12 which is when we closed sometimes even try to stay PAST CLOSING when we had Chores to do after we closed that we had to finish if we wanted to get our digital tips from our manager.

Naw Joe is COMPLETELY wrong in 5th grade sex ed is now called HEALTH CLASS and they introduce young kids to homosexuality , lgbt and non binary terms and ideologies ..... it also teaches inclusion its been a while since Joe was in elementary school.things have changed .. kids in my sisters class were claiming to be trans after the 1st week of class completely confusing the kids inhave no issue with lgbt at all but let them.make these decisions in their own when age appropriate and sure they also have " pleasure based " sex education
