Francessa is the Babe Ruth of this industry.... the fact that others suck and can't get the ratings and create the same interest that he does, is not his fault..... he is the original pioneer of that whole sports station (you can even say the pioneer of the whole sports-talk industry), and he is still by far the best at it 30 years later...... everyone needs to shut the fuck up, kiss the ring of the boss, and thank him for developing that station to levels where they now have an opportunity to work and live well by doing it

respect to Evan and Joe i started to listen to them back around 2008 when i was in college, and over the slow decline of solo Francesa (the worst parts of Mike became more prominent as years went on) their show became the best one on WFAN. it's an ugly situation - and Mike again is in the wrong, making up shit like a conspiracy to justify his flip-flop or give himself a motivating factor to come back- when the facts are he had no where else to go, he's been dying to talk about the Yankees who he probably thinks will win titles within 2 years (so do I). the CMB show was a disaster, and it is shocking the disconnect there is between the management and their listeners. they really think Mike's fan base (25-65 year old white males from long island), do you think they give a shit about diversity or a woman/black guy on their afternoon drive? more than half are probably racist. anyway i welcome the opportunity to laugh at Mike's ridiculous shit, while at the same time tuning in at 3 to hear the opens.

Peter Dwyer, great points, especially about Mike's fan base. Actually, I didn't have a problem with CMB. I like to hear a different perspective, especially from someone who actually played pro sports.

Agree with you, Peter Dwyer- love him or hate him, Mike mattered. People had/have strong opinions on him and listened to hear the rants, the ego, the high-handed, know-it-all demeanor. You laughed, got pissed or shook your head, but always had a reaction. CMB- and most others on the FAN for that matter- simply aren't very good. Bart Scott epitomizes the disturbing trend that has infected TV/Radio for years: putting an unqualified, ex-jock on air just because he used to play. I also agree Mike is totally wrong for the way he orchestrated this "comeback"- using a conspiracy straw man while unsuccessfully masking the fact that he overestimated his worth elsewhere, finding people weren't knocking down his door with offers because of his ego and salary demands.

huh? i threw that in there as just something that is facts, and something most important to this entire shit- Mike misses the radio and therefore misses talking about the Yankees. or what are you saying Mike's return has to do with? Mike & CAA just went behind everybody involved with a job at WFAN for any period of time beyond a year when Entercome bought CBS Radio/WFAN and went to CEO (who is just as complicit in this decision as not everyCEO would bring Mike back) who panicked after losing to Kay show, another motivating factor for Mike coming back.

that's fine but from what i've heard the show is not good and i don't anticipate any chemistry- Bart is not the person for sports talk radio. he is however the guy for a tremendous soundbite screaming at the camera end of a game. and Maggie Gray i have no idea what's going on there. Carlin...whatever i find myself least liking his voice.

I was never a fan of Carlin, but I did give CMB a chance. The show is just not very good, regardless of them having to replace MIke. WFAN dropped the ball on this. Evan & Joe would have been a better fit for Mike's slot than CMB. Mike will always be Mike. That's what makes him so great.

Mike is a big Parcells fan... Parcells finished with the Giants and he was "done coaching". Then Parcells took the Patriots job and "un-retired". The Tuna then took the Jets job for three seasons and "retired". After that Parcells "un-retired again" and took the Cowboys job. Mike Francesa is simply playing by the same script as his idol BILL PARCELLS... Stay tuned in a couple of years for Mike's "retirement" to be followed a few months later by his "un-retirement" from radio.

So glad Mike is coming back. Sorry but I just can't listen to CMB. I tried.. I kept trying and kept trying. They kept giggling and talking about nonsense and it was just a very hard listen. Mike, love him or hate him (and there is a lot on both sides) you knew what you get with him and I could listen to him and the callers all day long and not tire of it. Nothing against CMB it's just not for me. I don't know who it was supposed to cater to but it wasn't for me. I can't wait for Mike to return, I'll be listening again and now I don't have to listen to Kay anymore. Which is another plus. As yes I took Kay over CMB that's how bad CMB was to listen to. Welcome back Mike. I too don't like how it went down but I am glad it did.

Mike did absolutely nothing wrong here. I remember just before he was leaving, callers were asking him if they would be able to find him somewhere, and promised that he would be somewhere in April on another station. He was probably looking for too much money from other offers, and he also simply missed what he was doing for three decades and decided to come back to his old stomping grounds for less money. Chernoff made one of the worst decisions in the history of radio broadcast by assembling a cast of three nobodies that have basic sports knowledge and that's all, and hardly relating to the NY audience. The show was flat out terrible, and was doomed from the beginning like many people predicted back in December. As to how the left winged media is destroying Mike over a bad decision by the higher ups at WFAN, as well as the overall performance of the current afternoon drive, is absolutely disgraceful.

Once again Mike did nothing wrong. He didn't receive any top offers like he was expecting when he left, and simply missed the daily routine of having a job talking sports radio. The piss-poor decision by Chernoff to hire the CMB crew screwed up many things over there. WFAN could have simply fired the three of them, but instead they are simply being moved to a different time slot, which still gives them an ample opportunity to grow, while at the same time, having Mike back in the afternoons to compete head to head against Kay to bring the ratings back up. It's a harsh decision, but makes the best business sense.

Much as I love your tag name, Archie, I can't agree with you here. Mike carefully orchestrated his retirement after 30 years at the station, complete with pomp and circumstance, ass-kissing and fawning by dozens (hundreds?) of people on air. He then leaves, overestimates his worth elsewhere, finding that no one wanted to hire a regional talk-show host with an ego and huge salary demands. He then engages in a public bad-mouthing of his replacements instead of having the good grace to ride off into the sunset, secure in his legacy. I'd say he did A LOT wrong here.Mike's replacements were poor and management undoubtedly did a horrible job lining up a competent duo to replace him. And I personally enjoy listening to Mike. None of this excuses him coming back in this manner and affecting the lives/jobs of others. Does he have the right to do so? yes. Is it the right thing to do? Hell, no.

You have valid points about his egoism; I cannot deny that at all. However he really is the reason that sports radio talk exists today, hence what brought WFAN all the top ratings over the years, and exactly why he was offered to come back, plain and simple. I disagree with you though, in that Mike never actually said anything about the afternoon show. If you're referring to the MLB show from about a month ago when he was paired with Chris Russo, it was actually Russo who gave a light cold shot to the afternoon show. And I'm sorry to say that they deserve it for being just an absolutely horrible listen for the entire stretch of time they were in the spotlight. WFAN did actually do the right thing in that they just simply moved the show to an earlier time, instead of flat-out cancelling the show and firing the three of them. But yeah, it's a crazy situation over there, but I can totally understand it from a business sense.

Like it or not, WFAN needs Francesa back in the worst way. CMB is a politically correct dumpster fire that has no hope. The rest of the on-air shows and talent is a wasteland more or less.
