I was never a great puncher of time clocks I was never the one who had lots I was only good at one thing, ringing bells, kissing rings A heart can't heal once padlocked I was never meant to be the one who was tedious I always wanna be the one who leads us On things that came to mind, never on someone else's dime As the hunter explains to the fox And the rain soaking through my coat About to capsize my boat I push it a long 'way from the docks I was never a good puncher of time clocks As the rain has chilled me to the bone I'm flat-out tired and alone I put it away, now it's locked I was never a good puncher of time clocks I was never a teller of stories Didn't need to thrive on the glory It's about the life of a man, victim time and time again Hard as hell to get up in the morning And the rain soaking through my coat It's about to capsize my boat I push it a long 'way from the docks I was never a good puncher of time clocks As the rain has chilled me to the bone I'm flat-out tired and alone I put it away, now it's locked I was never a good puncher of time clocks Regrets to stoke the fires Clay pigeon and the ignorant liars The view from my window as the pouring rain seeps Too scared to look down in the deep Make no illusions 'bout your forgone conclusions Time will set you back, will heal all your wounds If the darkness sets in, it creeps up on you Like a man typecast the fool And the rain soaking through my coat About to capsize my boat I push it a long 'way from the docks I was never a good puncher of time clocks As the rain has chilled me to the bone I'm flat-out tired and alone I put it away, now it's locked I was never a good puncher of time clocks, oh Oh, as the rain has chilled me to the bone I'm flat-out tired and alone I put it away, now it's locked I was never a good puncher of time clocks

I've always been one to focus on the words and vocals in a song. Your guitar always grabs hold of me when you solo, blocking everything else out, but you're a solid songwriter and your voice has become a powerful instrument.

I think Joe’s heart has been deeply broken over something, Who or what, I don’t know, But to me, this song expresses deep catharsis, both in sound and in words. It is different from his earlier work, but there it is, and it is Joe and his deeper self.

Funny you mentioned that. On my first listen my mind and soul were transported back to the 70s sounds of Meatloaf and the slide guitar work in Jackson Brown's band. Just a fantastic song where all the parts come together perfectly and none outshine the rest.

If joe ventures into Country territory, I don't mind at all. Arguably, some of Eric Clapton's best music came via 461 Ocean Boulevard. Go were you will, Joe, follow your muse. This was excellent. Shades of Brad Paisley in those solos.

Many people say there's lots going on in the music here, and for a song about the passage of time and our memories of days gone by, I think that's appropriate. We all have many emotions and various memories that can't be encapsulated by a single sound throughout the time of our lives. And Joe captures that elegantly here, from triumphant power chords and big swelling blues/rock guitar tones to the gentle, country like melodies in-between. Life's a journey with many different tonalities and the one constant through it all is that time will always move forward.

Like all great artists, Joe is constantly evolving. I've been to five of his concerts over the last ten years or so, and it's a new experience every time.

I love JB and his music (have all his albums and blue rays, been to several concerts and one blues cruise) but that is the most depressing video I have ever seen.
