Lekompo comes from the word compound, when people used to work at farms we'd call them "makompo", batho ba go dula "kompong", meaning people who stay in workers' compounds. So since those people wake up very early and work very hard throughout getting themselves greased and dirtied, any ordinary person who looked like them would be referred to as lekompo "o dio ba lekompo", and that is where the word gained its derogatory meaning. So Lekompo genre is an offshoot of Bucket(the term which was never popularized)/Bolobedu house and that is where it surfaces from since the genre was started by music producers who regard themselves as hard workers, so Lekompo simply means a hard worker. Just for takeaway... Bucket/Bolo house producers, singers and DJs would be bo DJ Kimero/Janisto/King Monada(then DJ Monada)/Poshy Gal/DJ Calvin etc etc ke sa tlogele motho ka ntle Then Lekompo came through and we saw bo King Salama, Villager SA, Shebe, Naqua SA, Kharishma, Shandesh, Boss E Sese, Mr Six 21 DJ Dance, Okbhuti Dess etc blowing up, again ke sa tlogele motho ka ntle because all our artists are appreciated.
