"Add the bass in your voice, get found like 'Cocoon.' So either sound like Loon or the pound's like 'BOOM'" Analysis: -- Jay-Z, particularly when he laughs, yells or gets exited, has kind of a higher register, soft voice (i.e., no bass). According to Joe, if Jay-Z were to ever "man up," actually add some bass in his voice (for once) and raise his voice to challenge Joe, Jay-Z will come up missing (and get found--like "Cocoon" [see explanation below for "Cocoon"]). So Jay has a choice, either sound like the rapper Loon (who is/was soft spoken) or get fired on. -- "Cocoon" is a 1985 sci-fi movie in which a family finds an alien fountain of youth. If you pay attention to Joe Budden's whole verse, he's emphasizing how he's the new blood (relative to the blue bloods) and of the new generation of rappers taking over an overthrowing the blue blood aristocracy. He also highlights how "Toys pop and spit. I'm not from around these parts. I'm Stojakovic"--or an "alien." Conclusion: Nobody that I've heard (other than Nas) has challenged Jay-Z's masculinity in such a way. This lethal bar was all nested in the motif that the then-new generation is taking over and Joey was at the vanguard. Of course casual rap fans will completely miss this potent dose of ether, and Joe Budden deserves far more credit, than he has in the past, for demolishing emcees and handling the Jay-Z beat jacking (and diss). To casual fans and laypeople, Joe Budden was sort of made to be a laughing stock because of "Pump It Up" and the Jay-Z beat jacking. Eighteen years later, to me, Joe Budden prevails as the victor in this lyrical contest.

The difference about Jay is he doesnt really care if ur verse is better then his cuz he barely be tryin...he spits out his head after only thinkin up a rap n like 15 minutes and then goes n the booth and punches tht verse n one take...other rappers write a verse to a beat for hours...days...weeks...and then prlly hav to stop multiple times n the sudio to get ther written verse out clear.... i can only imagine the ridiculous top tier verse jay would put down if he actually wanted to out do someone. Wat i always liked about HOV is he jus lays his verse, he doesnt worry about who verse is better and go back and re-do his verse like 90% of the other rappers...he jus drops som bars and moves on...if the public think u outshined him on a track he ok wit that...he jis only wasted about 15 mins or so of his day on his verse and damn near does it flawlessly...with no pen!!! 😂
