If I'm not mistaken, MBJ said they took a lot inspiration from anime fight scenes. That's why the fights look different than any other Creed or Rocky and although I don't watch anime I enjoyed how they filmed the fight scenes.

Creed needed to be longer...they undercut their own wins, but cutting the character stuff short. I hope there is a real extended Director's cut to fill out the movie. It was 8/10 on immediate watch, but 7/10 with reflection, but could be 9/10 or 10/10 with that added content...they condensed it too much and it seems the studio or someone undercut them and didn't believe

I thought the same thing about the timeline… but talking with my guys on this… Rocky was actually shorter than this flick. So what we determined… Rocky movies had longer memorable fight scenes and forgettable inbetween story Dev. Creed was opposite, longer memorable story Dev and shorter forgettable fight scenes. When you look at it that way, you see the difference. Plus the speedball creed timeline makes sense for the attention span of these younger viewers… mad anime like. You know? Just my take.

Joe was right. They didn't develop the drama in the film and they rushed into the third act really quickly. Wasn't the best Creed (Creed 1 is) but a great film nonetheless. My main issue was that Adonis is the hero, but for all intentions was the *antagonist* of the film. Despite being the alleged 'villain', Damian (Jonathan Majors) was certainly the protagonist, and I would say the actual hero of the film due in part to the film not fleshing out the drama of the film. Dame throws 18 years of his life away trying to protect Adonis from a fight Adonis starts. But Adonis doesn't check for him at all, yet when Dame comes out, Adonis isn't interested in helping him achieve his goal of becoming champion, so Dame has to create the opportunity himself. But when Dame manages too despite Adonis' selfish opposition, tellingly Adonis isn't happy for him. Yet we're supposed to see Dame as the bad guy because he wasn't cool with Adonis after Adonis repeatedly neglecting him and being the ANTAGONIST of his goals which were in no way sinister or villainous? Great film, I watched it twice. Jonathan Majors was so awesome and sympathetic. The casting was great in the film. The film seemed like a set up for a fourth Creed. The only let down was the lack of depth in the story. Will give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Crazy part this is my exact take. First watch 6/10 only because I do compare these films to all “rocky” films. As a fight movie the drama was not developed throughly. The movie was 1:50:00 the final fight was minimum and felt rushed. But acting was great with what they had and chemistry was phenomenal

Honestly, Creed 3 was way better than expected. *SPOILER ALERT* Hindsight they definitely could fleshed out some details like how Adonis truly settled into his retirement and new sport promoter/manager role thing he was doing, Jonathan Majors time in jail staying focused on fights, also his life post winning the heavyweight championship, the negative tension and resolution between Bianca and Him, resolution for their daughter, and a slightly better training scene. However, even though I feel as if 30 more minutes could’ve changed things, it also could’ve ruined it. I think they did JUST enough to get by but not under deliver. If they would’ve done more it could’ve provided too much room for a fuck up. It was a very entertaining film and that’s all that matter. Nothing below a 7/10 on a bad day!

Joe's takes on this movie were pretty solid. But it was still a fantastic movie. They do Rush the Jonathan Majors storyline and watching the movie, you find yourself wanting more information about Majors' character. (I wanted them to explain how he's still good after a 20-year layoff. How did they create so much hype around his first-ever pro fight to have it be in a sold-out arena versus the Unified Champ?) They used the lack of this information to keep you engaged in the film. To me, the fight scenes were great. The action was there. Each fight felt like a brawl. It felt like if you were watching the fight for real, it would've been the greatest fight you had ever watched.
