I remember when I was about 19 years old, Lupe Fiasco had came to the local college for a conference and I went to listen to him speak. Afterwards, I chased him and his team down outside before they hopped into their Sprinter van and handed him a beat tape that I had made. In hindsight, those beats were so shitty lol. But you know what? He took the CD from me and actually listened to them. It meant a lot to me. Good people!

he came to my school when i was sophmore in high school to perform around the time lasers came out. i was rapping at the time, so when he held a q&a after, i asked to rap for him. the radio station host who sponsored the event was holding the mic and shoved me off. long story short, he told me to come back, let me rap for him, challenged that if i could make him and his dj head bob, he would donate 15k to my school. i won the challenge, and ended up getting $1000 scholarship from it when i graduated. bro is def good people, it meant everything to me at the time and really boosted my confidence. shouts to lupe fr

are you serious? because its a business and he was doing it at a time before an artist could create demand with the internet. The label is literally putting all their money onto an artist and they set roll outs for the year to try to set the artist up the best they think they can. (i.e. what time of year they sell the best, who they release against, ARTIST DEVELOPMENT which people complain is gone but at the same time say fuck labels). They don't want to loose money. And its not just "your" culture its every genre in the music business until the internet came along. OF COURSE you should do it yourself and build a following, but some people dont have the foresight or have a chip on their shoulder

I dunno how much you followed Joe's career but he went through some industry shit which is why people know him only for Pump it Up, but he was consistently dropping fire mixtapes for the over a decade. @Daniel Hill You're right to be fair. I was mainly trying say that Joe had been though industry bs as well. And lets not forget that as much of a joke as it is, he made one of the biggest hip hop songs of all time and that shouldve counted for something. He also said the support stop coming BEFORE he dropped the album which is why it flopped not after. Listen to the song Def Jam diss he explains it better than I can.

My first rap concert was Lupe fiasco's "The Cool'' tour. The tickets were 15 dollars and at the time the most popular record store in this small town was shut down (FYE): store name.(before streaming). Needless to stay he rocked the stage at the University of Mary Washington. Without fully getting a fair shake at sales. He gave me the most unforgettable performance ever. No chains, no diamonds, just a mic, a jacket, heart, and soul. It was like he was at the garden (MSG). Madison Square Garden for those who don't' know. That made me decide to leave the streets and pursue entertainment in many aspects. behind and in front of the entertainment business. I just want to say thank you. if he reads this that would be super dope.

Plus he is cool with quite a few people in high places in Atlantic. However joe I think says some of those things, because he now sees it from their perspective though he doesn’t fully agree , and isn’t on their side he knows what they are doing is what’s in the best interest of them and their business.

Mr. G Joe is in bed with these folks and his opinion is slanted. Go watch the podcast where he defended Puff til the ends of the earth against Rory and Mal. It’s obvious He will not speak ill of those folks who he would’ve been at they throats with their treatment of Artists. Now his tone is completely changed since he’s “Retired “. I enjoy the podcast cause I know Joe talks shit about stuff. Industry talk turns into His friends and his relationship with them and how someway they are just good guys to him. Lupe told him stories of the fuckery and joe just laughed it off. Mannnn Cmon. Lol

SOSA is a union and rap school? What is SOSA? Lupe never made it crystal clear. Sometimes you have to spell it out. Break it down for the slow ones like myself. You have to make people truly understand the importance of the group and how it benefits them. As an educator, I am constantly explaining why the subject matter I teach is beneficial to the lives of my kids. I know teenagers who can't comprehend the purpose of an education period. Also, what was it exactly that Lupe wanted us to "SEE"?

I wonder what made Joe flip...All I remember is him killing the industry forever and nows its a flip. Respect the mans legend, sometimes I feel like this game will get you and shift the moral compass. I know he trying get artists to open up, but damn especially when they railroaded his music career.

30:00 when Joe says we gotta get out of this oppressed state he makes a fallacy in his retorts. If you could just get out of that mindset, it wouldn't be oppressive.
@Kafilkafilkafil
@Kafilkafilkafil 4 жыл бұрын
@Katarina Love Yea I see how stupid I type. It wouldn't stop oppression but oppression is multifaceted and if the societal norms leads a population to think a distinct and submissive way then the mindset is oppressive because it puts one category of people over another. Society also perpetuates the idea. It ties into real research of sociology. Also Native Americans were oppressed in their mindset as well which did eliminate much of their culture. These things happened and it does no justice to any community to act as if it would be different IF something else were to have happened. In tactics of war propaganda and control over information and making a narrative that even your opponents abide to are very useful tools. This reigns true especially when population dynamics are one sided. I.e. Caucasian people make up 65% of the US. If they put a norm into society that places whites on a higher level than minorities and propagate that mindset into society, 65% will rally that idea in society and create a sociological narrative that places others on the backburned. There are many factors to oppression and oppressive mindsets are so powerful they continue for generations. This is a fact we see in African Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanic Americans. We even see that mindsets trickle down in the dominant communities. Caucasian tend to feel at they are at a higher position in this country based on the ancestors and their lineage. I.e. Trumps, Clinton's, Kennedy's, Roosevelt's, Rockefellers, Carnegies, Morgans, and the list continues. I may sound stupid but oppressive mindsets are a real topic of study in universities just by another name and there is research done to prove how sociological helps the subjugation of other peoples in a country. Please don't take my word for it. Join a class and explore you would be surprised to see how difficult it is to unlearn societal norms.

Lupe would be the kind of artist that Tupac (an artist that a lot of people hold in high regard for his revolutionary stance on many things) would salute. Lupe ain't gonna stop until he sees change occur. Joe saying he still bitter, but Lupe is fighting for all of us, against a force that has monopoly over the whole game. Lupe needs our support 💯

Clippa caddy J Cole has had several platinum selling albums which has put him on a God like status even amongst the youth. Any rapper would immediately feature him on a song. I’m not sure these new druggie rapper kids even know who Lupe is. They obviously wouldn’t be as open to collaborating.

Lupe and Royce have to be my favorite two rappers. Normally, I see joe as someone who only tries to stir the pot, but he’s got a point here. Lupe’s foundation should be more known. The issue is he talks to much about Atlantic and putting energy there instead of the positives of his curriculum. I’d love to learn more about this as a rapper, but I never heard of it.
