I'm English. I've never watched a game of Baseball in my life. Live or on TV. I've never been to Toronto. I've never been to Canada. And yet for some reason this is one of my favourite sporting moments and commentaries of all time. As everyone says - shivers, goosebumps - the works. There's just something totally magical about it. Special moment. Special time.

It was electric, especially as a diehard Jays fan from T.O. Sadly, this home run doesn't get its due because it was accomplished by a non-US team. Were it for the benefit of the NY Yankees, a photo of the event would grace a postage stamp. Regardless, a home run to win a championship has never been done before or since and is, undeniably, the greatest and most impactful moment in baseball history.

I'm from Toronto and was around 12 years old at the time. I listened to the radio with the tv on silent. When Joe hit the run, it was a crack of his bat that I'll remember. Dancing and jumping and hugging my family. I didn't see the replay until the next day. TV broadcast didn't match how ridiculously amazing the moment was

I remember this as a 13 year old...I cried; I jumped around the house; I just loved the whole thing. One of only two guys to walk off in a World Series. It doesn't get better than that. And, to Tom Cheek I will say this..."Touch 'em all, Joe; you'll never hit a bigger one in your life." Hands down the greatest call of my childhood.

I was 15 rows behind home plate, bought scalper seats just before game time...best ticket purchase of my life...after the home run we spilled out into the street and, not kidding, the throng of joyous people was so dense I was moving along with the crowd and my feet weren't touching the ground. I ended up, on foot, at Yonge and St. Clair and a local pub and a whole lotta lotta! Way to go Joe!

I was 17 and watching it with my mom. We were on the edge of our seats in anticipation, but it did feel like Joe was going to do something. We had been to about 6 or 7 games that year, and Joe won like 2 or 3 of those games. His average will keep him from the HoF, but holy crap was that guy ever clutch. Didn't break a sweat in those kinds of situations.

@@jasonmarcel4823 Not just his batting average. He lacked key numbers to warrant serious consideration for election into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was well below the all time leaders in hits, home runs, runs batted in, fielding percentage etc. He never won a league MVP award. He never won a post season MVP award i.e. American League Championship Series or World Series MVP. He only had two Silver Slugger awards and never won a Gold Glove award. Nice guy and he had some good numbers. For a few seasons he was among the leaders. But when compared to the all time greats and the best of his era he was below the threshold needed to be thought of as a hall of famer.

39 years old today. Have zero ties to Toronto or the Blue Jays or the Phillies but I remember exactly where I was sitting in my parents living room watching this entire series. I recorded every game on VHS. Remember being allowed to stay up past bedtime to watch the game on school nights. Stopping it when commercials started. Starting it when commercials ended. Hitting play + record at the same time to initiate recording lol. Remember thinking my dad would be mad for using so many blank VHS tapes. Remember watching John kruk chewing tobacco and when I started playing baseball in school I would shove as much beef jerky chew as I could in my mouth. Good times.

The Chicago White Sox will forever be my team, but the Bluejay are a close second. And I think it's because of Joe Carter. Such a class act. And the logo is the best.

Great call by the announcer. Right up there with: " Little roller up the first base line...BEHIND THE BAG! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight and THE METS WIN IT !!" ( Vin Skully 1986 World Series Mets vs Red Sox game 6.)

The Blue Jays were behind in the game, but up in the series, before the home run by Carter. Still the 2nd most dramatic hr, next to Maz's

On this date (October 23) in 1993: Joe Carter ended the World Series and gave the Blue Jays their second straight title with this dramatic walk-off homer. “Touch ‘em all Joe. You’ll never hit a bigger home run in your life.” The late, great, Tom Cheek on the call.
