I'm English. I've never watched a game of Baseball in my life. Live or on TV. I've never been to Toronto. I've never been to Canada. And yet for some reason this is one of my favourite sporting moments and commentaries of all time. As everyone says - shivers, goosebumps - the works. There's just something totally magical about it. Special moment. Special time.
@Jivanmuktaintraining2 жыл бұрын
It was electric, especially as a diehard Jays fan from T.O. Sadly, this home run doesn't get its due because it was accomplished by a non-US team. Were it for the benefit of the NY Yankees, a photo of the event would grace a postage stamp. Regardless, a home run to win a championship has never been done before or since and is, undeniably, the greatest and most impactful moment in baseball history.

I'm from Toronto and was around 12 years old at the time. I listened to the radio with the tv on silent. When Joe hit the run, it was a crack of his bat that I'll remember. @@jasonmarcel4823 Not just his batting average. He lacked key numbers to warrant serious consideration for election into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was well below the all time leaders in hits, home runs, runs batted in, fielding percentage etc. He never won a league MVP award. He never won a post season MVP award i.e. American League Championship Series or World Series MVP. He only had two Silver Slugger awards and never won a Gold Glove award. Nice guy and he had some good numbers. For a few seasons he was among the leaders. But when compared to the all time greats and the best of his era he was below the threshold needed to be thought of as a hall of famer.
